My wife has got me a vrs gear knob for my 2.0 oct for xmas ( Please dont laugh!!) How do I remove the old one as I don't fancy breaking

Some vRS owners think it does, but I have my doubts.........rolleyes.gif

I tried a search for 'gearknobs' and found this post which relates to changing the Octavia gearknob for a Seat one. Perhaps you could let us know idc if the removal instructions work for your car, Roger.

I think I have your answer:

Ooooo, careful, youll make Jason (Devonutopia) jealous... he has a fetish for knobs... specifically of the polished chrome variety

Another answer hot off the press in my Styling!

on my car you have to lift up the gaiter then release a locking ring around the base of the knob and it just pulls off

Yep Alex has the right idea and i found the same.

Get behind the gaiter trim and there is a clip holding the knob in place. You probably wont be able to reuse it without the gear knob moving around when you change gear.

I used on of those mini hose clamps to resecure it and it didnt budge. :)

So, with the jealousy setting in, exactly how much is a 5 speed vRS shiney chrome effect gearstick knob? :D

It seems easy'ish to swap over, with a little gaitor work, so I'd be quite tempted to splurge my Mum's Xmas money on one.

Any ideas?

You would upset the Octy owners... who would want to see a Octy vRS part in a Fabia TDi?...

you cant use a Fabia vRS one because thats a six cog :p

aah but some might say its a Skoda Motorsport gearknob and therefore not exclusive to the vRS.. :D

:flame: awaits flaming... :D

And some might say you can tart the car up as much as you like but it'll still be a diesel Fabia...

But i wouldn't be so unkind....

Thanks for your replys,

I lifted the trim from the bottom up so you could see the gear knob from

bottom then removed a black clamping clip which released the gaiter.

Then removed a metal clip which I have bent a bit which I would like to replace. It was a sort of cheap jubilee clip probably only meant to be used once. Put on new Knob and reversed the above..

I think the knob was around

I have to be honest - I'm not looking to change the gear knob unless it was quite cheap, and at

i paid only

hye knob my wife bought had to go back as it would not fit over the reversing mechanism on the stick. According to Halfords the Octavia is very odd! They have knobs for cars with no special mechanism for putting the car in reverse and for those with a lift up lever but non that will fit the push down system!

Jason, I've got a present for you :D

William, you just need the standard gearknob. There are 2 sorts: normal and ones with a lift collar to select reverse. Yours is the former. I've got a momo air race leather on mine, fitted just fine.

Yep... Momos fit...

Do I feel I should be worried? :o

Does this mean I need to start looking for a pressie for you and your shiney vRS...? Wonder if that buffing duster thingy came with it? :p

The the knob my wife bought was a Rip Speed chrome knob. It was the standard one. It did not fit because the diameter of the hole in the knob is 15 mm while the diameter of the Octavia gear lever shaft is 20 mm. After reading that Momo fit I took my vernier calipers with me to Halfords and measured. The hole in the Momo knob (the very one picture in the above post) is also just 15 mm. I can only speculate that as my Octavia is a pre-facelift that the car pictured with the knob is a later model with a different gear lever/reverse mechanism.
