Towball Height

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I (unfortunately) have a tow trust towbar fitted and apart from the Skoda coding debacle, I am concerned about it's height. I know the centre of the tow ball is supposed to be between 350 mm and 420 mm when loaded with 4 people and luggage but even with lots of weight in the boot and the trailer hitched, mine is still nearer 50cm.

If anyone on here has the factory fit tow towbar and an L & K estate on 18" wheels, I would be interested to know what the height the centre of your tow ball is unloaded, mine is about 55cm.

Thanks

Tim

Does the current towball height adversely affect the attitude of the trailer - E.g. is the trailer 'tail-down'?

Looking at the fitting instructions for the brink towbar as an example.

The cross member can be fitted to the side beams in two optional place depending upon Octavia and superb models, the superb mounting bolts are lower, could that possibly be the error.

If you get underneath and have a look it may be possible to see for yourself?

The trailer is very tail down, first time I drove it off the drive I smashed the 2 rear plastic foot plates (good job I had spares).
