Regarding special connector 843 written on it( is it ignitor for side airbags or earthing )

Featured Replies

Dear Experts ,

Can anybody advice me what is the part about i.e side airbag or earthing ? This part is located near seat belt tensioner ( passenger front side on pillar of car,) two images are attached for info, image1 from YouTube shows big connector connecting two wires bit unclear picture, 2nd image is taken from my car shows some kind of adapter (843 ) not sure what it is connecting which is different from 1st image , not sure if any connection has been missed out to it is earthing point or some hidden connection behind this adapter to air side bag. I have looked the electrical diagrams but could NOT find more info about it , thinking to remove and scan the QR code to understand what is going on.

Yellow connector means some connection with AIR BAG does it mean side air bag connection please?

Any thought please, would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Kind regards

Found that it is - polo-6r-crash-sensor-impact-air-unit-module, not sure how its compatible with this car , so at least it is clear that it is Impact crash sensor , next question if it is compatible with the car or not why vcds is not throwing any error may be throwing error but cannot understand, that need to be checked now and need to be corrected.

It means the door wiring of polo 6 has been used.

Hi Experts ,

Any idea how to make polo interior harness compatible with fabia , not sure how much portion of wiring harness is messy ,Since I am getting error related to airbags so I reckon only airbag related harness would be incompatible that to passenger side.

Novice mechanic trainee may have just used polo harness and module for connecting airbag ( passenger seat airbag , driver steering air bag , belt tensioner , passenger front airbag ) with air bag module which may have same oem number of polo 6.

Any suggestion what should be approach to resolve the issue? I can think of two approaches ,

Options I can thinks of

  1. Look the floor and see how harness is been laid ( all airbags and airbag controller )

  2. Look to see how modification can be done with existing polo6 wiring which has extra crash sensor only rest wiring and connectors seems ok.

Any thought both task are very challenging and need lot of knowledge and learning about wiring and understanding connections, mechanical unscrewing seats may not big thing from car floor but repairing electrical fault is very big I feel.

Any pointers would be appreciated .

Thnaks

What makes you think the wiring has been changed?

Dear Pete , Appreciate your time , Great question , Well considering the past history of car and incompatible part found so far ( Driver side Seat belt tensioner /Passenger seat belt tensioner, driver side actuator and possibly front air bag ) and vcds error log which shows airbag errors especially [Kombi1 DLC Error].

Weird to note that ECU complains about passenger seat belt but does not throw any error about Driver side even though both parts are fitted from VW passat 2009 ( of course Fabia compatible Belt tensioner and VW Passat have slight different resistance range)

Also I have not looked any NO CRASH sensor oem part for my car in 7zap.com ( full subscribed ) for my VIN number.

I have also seen AIRBAG coding in VCDS and there were many fields which were displayed for AIRBAG and were disabled to configure suspect that mix and match wiring may have used by mechanic.

@Jack25 have same car and he had pointed out different airbag connectors which make my believe stronger for possibly mess.

Again I may be wrong based on my limited knowledge , please advice ur views I am hoping to test seat belt tensioner and passenger side air bag with resistor ( 2-3 ohom) ( air bag unplugged already ) and see the live values of resistance and airbag engine light.

Apologies Pete forget to attach the log of resistance values.

Dear Pete , As always you are right after clearing Air bag error now left with just two errors , I remembered airbag coding which was originally missing were added few weeks ago but errors were never cleared , so cleared today and after clearing errors have noticed that 3rd error most dreadful and scary had disappeared bit of relief as wring may be correct only issue would be parts I think again I may be wrong.

I have tested today Driver side of air bags and gathered below information from log so basically VCDS is capturing higher resistance of seat belt resistance but ECU is not logging error , which possibly make sense because car has been fitted with VW passrt tensioner which have higher resistance range and cpu is not caring.

-> Captured data from VCDS Live log : (Measuring blocks)

Driver side airbag igniter ohm value-Measured Value Resistance: 2.7ohm

Driver thorax airbag igniter ohm value-Measured Value Resistance 2.4ohm

Driver side belt tensioner igniter ohm value-Measured Value Resistance 2.6ohm

Driver airbag igniter-Measured values : Correct

Driver seat belt tension igniter-Measured values : Correct

Driver seat belt switch-Measured values : Connected

Driver thorax airbag igniter-Measured values : Correct

Driver belt tensioner ohm value-Measured Value Resistance 2.  :  Too large. ( Understandable  because Skoda Passat have different resistance Range )

Soon will do analysis for passenger side , will connect 2 to 2.4 ohm resistor and see VCDS log ( Seat AirBAG and seat belt tensioner has been disconnected ).

At the moment I am getting errors only passenger side, not driver side but was curious to know more about ECU behaviour for wrong seat belt tensioner. Now need to understand about seat belt tensioner ignitor , buckle where seat belt clicks doesn't have any sensor in my car .

Will check soon if anything else is missing and update it.

Thanks

I think special yellow connector are may be called Ignitors which may be an issue , because 1. seatbelt tensioner does not have connector and it was hardwired directly to seatbelt tensioner and seat side airbag connector ( coming from ECU) does NOT look healthy as per image .

Dear Experts ,

Earlier I was thinking there is connector issue but now my understanding is that there is definitely wiring /connectivity issue because I have cleared the errors and immediately those 2 errors came back and have taken VCDS log by connecting 2.4 ohm resistor at 2 wires seat belt tensioner ( coming from airbag module ) AND at seat belt AIRBAG 3 pin connector ( connected resistor at black and yellow wires, coming from airbag module ) got same response no change at all whatsoever, deleted errors immediately it popped up back. Now will look the wiring digram and see how the wires travel to airbag controller or even see there is clean connection to Airbags Module (J234) 5K0-959-655 K .

Any pointers to get clairty about for wiring digram would be appreciated, I have 7ZAP.com full access but getting right digram is challenge. SO not sure if the crash data is not fully cleared or anything else is wrong. There is another possibility that during crash data clearing from module they may have messed up and module conigration itself may be faulty. I will check connectivity the wires from airbag to Module connector but before that I would need to find the correct wiring digram.

Captured data PASSENGER SIDE ONLY (ABOVE MESSAGE HAVE DRIVE SIDE - from VCDS Live log : (Measuring blocks)

Passenger side airbag igniter ohm value-Measured Value Resistance: 2.1

Front passenger front airbag igniter-Measured values : correct

Passenger side side airbag igniter ohm value-Measured Value Resistance:too large

Frt.pass. side belt tensioner igniter ohm value-Measured Value Resistance:too large

Frt.pass. belt tensioner ohm value-Measured Value Resistance 2: too large

Front passenger thorax airbag igniter-Measured values: too large

Front passenger seat belt tensioner igniter-Measured values : too large

Front passenger head curtain airbag igniter-Measured values:cannot be measured currently

Front passenger side safety belt switch-Measured values: not installed

Number of side crashes frt.pass. side: 1

Thanks,

Kind Regrds

Dear Experts , Please recommend best/easy source for wring schematic for Fabia -2 interiors, I have looked the Skoda original manuals and read that they have stopped supplying wiring access to common public.

I have seen wiring diagrams subscription form different companies i.e Autodata, Hynes, Alldata. I want to do basic checks if wires of passenger AIRBAG are at least connecting to proper pins of AIRBAG module connector of course with lot of caution. I have taken 7zap sucbrption for short time for looking oem parts.

If anybody have Electrical wiring manual please do share , also checking many auto electrical experts ( 100 mile radius) and availability is big issue not many expert people are available for these so called complex electrical jobs, also they refuse when they hear AIRbag wiring issue.

It will good fun not in rush , will take as challenge and learn the car electrical and apply my uni knowledge .

Thanks for reading .

Dear Experts , The update is found the issues of airbags/seatbelt tensioner passenger side, grateful @Breezy_Pete for his timely advice and direction for diagnostics , found wiring issue 5-6 wires related to passenger airbags and belt tensioner were found broken it seems intentional cut for shortcut goals.

Disclaimer : I am NOT EXPERT in AUTO electrical domain, since I hold uni degree and understand basics of electronics and electrical and read lot so I am just doing investigation only at the moment, AIRBAG domain is very risky so please be careful, I am only sharing knowledge which may be wrong so please take expert help if needed.

Thanks
