Hey all,

Managed to get under my partners car at the weekend to service it and change the oil. Whilst there I was quite taken by how clean the engine was, but there was a patch of what looked like oil on the undertray. This was later discovered to be coming (I believe) from the gearbox drain plug. The car has had a new clutch, flywheel and replacement box in the last twelve months and so I can only assume there's an issue with the drain plug or a seal.

Looking really closely at the drain plug, I see no seal at all and yet a parts diagram for this box (lhd 2011 MY) it shows what appears to be a plug and a separate seal. Can anyone advise at all? I guess the gearbox is going to get yet more expensive oil and a change again but I'd like to know if that seal should be there if anyone can advise? Thank you so much.

Maybe an aluminium crush washer or O ring?

You can put the oil you drain from the box back in if its very fresh. Just make sure you drain into a clean container

Maybe an aftermarket one. Think from memory it has a rubber thin seal not a crush washer.

Looked from memory as above.

Not on a skoda but my Seat was weeping oil and the seal had failed. I got a proper VW/Skoda one with crush washer and used a smear of hylomar blue just to make sure and it cured it.

Thank you both for the reply! I'll get hold of the local skoda dealer tomorrow and order whatever plug they have listed. I'm thankful it wasn't full of vw oil or I'd probably be in tears but I think it's probably best to just dump the oil and put in fresh. It seemed lovely with the Fuchs stuff that was put in there.

If the oil hasnt been in for long and is really clean its possible to reuse although new oil would be advised if its older
