Key not found

Featured Replies

Hi all, recently bought a 2016 Fabia 1.2tsi with 1 key and it's the push button start, had 2 mobile locksmiths out and both have the same problem, they can cut and programme the keys so it locks and unlocks and will start the car but the new key they cut will only start the car if held right up to the button and then you get the dreaded "key not found" warning and noise, the original key works fine so I can't see that it's a car fault and I can put up with holding the spare key up to the switch as I'm not going to pay £360 for a key from Skoda and then another £75 to code it for them to find the same thing but I'd like to know can I disable the the warning noise???

Have you tried replacing the fob battery?

Yes, new batteries fitted 👍

I've seen quite a few reports of 'new' button-cell battery being faulty, are you able to load-test with a meter?

I have a meter but wouldn't know how to test it and seeing as it's working at the moment I'm loathe to interfere with it 😱 plus 2 locksmiths have had the same problem so seems a bit weird, I would love it to be just the battery as everything points to that

If your meter has a 3 volt (or higher) battery test function, this applies a small load on the cell while showing the available voltage (unloaded cell voltages are not particularly useful)

Was it a genuine skoda fob or an aftermarket one. Have read that some aftermarket ones have lower signal strength/poorer antenna. Daughters got one for her volvo and sometimes isnt found but the original is fine. Battery in hers is new and voltage is good.

Aftermarket fobs but different makes, as I explained I'd be loathe to spend over £400 at skoda and them they say that they have to dig further, the original fob works fine so can't see how it can be a car fault but you never know these days.

If the original fob works fine I agree its most likely the new fob. Wonder if theres a way to compare signal strength beteen them. Maybe an auto locksmith could check. Also check that the new fob is operating on the same frequency as the original? Had a quick google and Ai says its 433.92Mhz for Skoda but it came from Ai??? Think it should be written inside fob somewhere.
