Unable to connect to carplay

Featured Replies

When I first got me 2017 Superb I connected me iPhone 13 via usb to get CarPlay then I bought this dongle and have been using it ok for a month, I got into the car the other day and CarPlay wouldn’t work I tried unplugging the dongle restarting the car deleting phone and all profiles and removing connections from the phone and car,

I’ve sent the dongle back but pay car won’t connect to the phone via car play , the usb cable (that has worked before) charges the phone

Can anyone suggest what I can check or try next? I’ve done a scan with vcds but there arnt any new faults ( nothing associated with the infotainment system)

Well, I haven’t found out why the iPhone wouldn’t reconnect via USB on CarPlay,, I’m assuming some sort of driver issue,, I received a replacement dongle with a different firmware than the previous one ( I think from a different seller, but I’m not sure it’s hard to tell on online nowadays) plug that in phone connected up straight away and it’s all working via Bluetooth

I’ve done a scan with vcds but there arnt any new faults ( nothing associated with the infotainment system) While troubleshooting the CarPlay connection, it can also be useful to simplify the rest of the setup and keep only the apps you actually need. A Free TV Remote App no subscription can be a convenient option for controlling your TV without adding another paid service.

Since the phone still charges through the USB cable, I wouldn’t assume the USB port itself is completely dead. Charging and CarPlay use different parts of the connection, so it’s possible to have power but no data connection.

I’d try a known-good data cable first, preferably an Apple-certified one, and test another iPhone if you can. On the iPhone, also check Settings → General → CarPlay and remove the Superb from the saved cars before reconnecting it. It’s also worth checking that Siri is enabled, since CarPlay depends on it.

If another iPhone also refuses to connect by USB, I’d start looking at the car side: the USB data port, infotainment unit or its configuration. Since VCDS isn't showing any related faults, that doesn't necessarily rule out a communication problem.

If you normally use a wireless CarPlay adapter/dongle, I’d leave it completely disconnected while troubleshooting and get wired CarPlay working again first. Once the original connection works reliably, add the dongle back into the equation.
