Having suffered my first dreaded coil failure on my 51 reg vRS - I expected a FOC replacement - but no - I am told my car doesn't qualify and they have replaced all four coils because the symptoms were 'random' (?) Any thoughts?

Rubbish........a failed coil should be easy to identify.

Don't stand for such service....you only wanted the fault fixed, not 'possible faults'.

Did you get the old coil pack back?

I personally would be accepting their bu11****..........the car would be back in their workshop have 3 coils removed and me being refunded.

Get onto Skoda UK straight away.

You have to agree with the above.

0845 7745745 get on to them and let them know.

It could be an idea to let us know where you went to.

If the coil pack has gone down and it is the old style then ALL of the old style coil packs are replaced FOC even if they are NOT faulty

Stand your ground mate

Think it is only about 1 hour too to replace the 4 coils.

Sounds like another rip off dealer

Name and shame , or let me know I will call them ;)

In the mood for an argument :censored:

It's OK !!!!! they've changed their minds - It's now FOC - after I asked for old coils back - asked for Skoda's phone number and quoted the Skoda bulletin - Thanks all and thanks Briskoda

How could I refuse?

Best name the dealer... sounds like a proper dodgy place!!

How could I refuse?
 Well done!

That is actually incorrect. That stopped a while back now with individual cases being delt with by customer services. As the bulletin/action has been in place for a number of years now I guess Skoda assumed all cars that have regular dealer service should now have been delt with.

Oh right.

It must have changed since I left the dealers.

But they still change the coils if they are the old style?

But they have to have gone down?

Will they not replace old style that have not gone down?

Sarah

It changed a little while ago (Denis has corrected the sticky thread iirc).

Now if old style coils are spotted the dealer has to report to c/s to see if they will pay for them. I think they are pretty generous still, certianly a full history etc goes along way to grease the wheels.

Changing the coils would take minutes... rip-off alert!

hint, remove the plastic engine covers and leave them in the garage. Re-fit when you sell the car.

I removed all four of mine in 20 minutes easily following the guide pictures found on this forum.

The one I replaced cost £22.74 inc vat.

£320 is definitely a rip off.

Why do you suggest removing the engine covers ????? :)

i've removed mine and left it off because with my strut brace on you can't actually get it on and off :o

Coil packs are basically just HT Leads with coils at the spark-plug end.

The engine covers serve no purpose whatsoever...other than making owners think the engine is 'mysterious' and 'you can't work on these modern engines'.

Leaving them off saves doing it every time you need to do or check anything. It can't harm the cooling either.

Coil failed on our '02 octy last week... dealer replaced them (all 4 to be safe) under warranty (thank god for extended warranty  )
