I have a 522gw Nextbase dam and rear cam too. It was professionally fitted and the installer has attached it to what looks like a bent bit of card wedged under the headlining. He said he couldn't attach the camera and mount to the rear windscreen because of the amount of movement when the hatch is opened. Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.

Pretty much exactly what I would do. I’ve seen something similar on here a couple of times.

Is there an issue with how it’s installed?

Previously the camera (which looks uncannily like an eyeball) was cracked and I don't know how. Having replaced it, it appears that the mount has failed - it's melted. I just wondered if the professional fitter was doing it incorrectly.

It’s probably about right. Personally I would probably fold a bit of metal up to the right shape to tuck into the headliner and then wrap in trim cloth.

He was right in that if you stick it to the window you either have to run cable through the gaiter to the tailgate or have a loop of cable from the headliner enough so it doesn’t go tight when you open tailgate. Both are not ideal when a simple bracket tucked in the headliner would work. Until it melted!

Another thought. Could you go back to the person who originally installed it and see if they will replace the bracket that’s melted? I assume the majority of the work is in the wiring etc so should be a quick and simple job as all the hard stuff is done. They may even do it for free as it’s failed.

I've had the mount replaced for free by Nextbase and I am going to talk to the installer shortly.

I routed mine (estate) via the wiring loom & rubber gaiter.

I didn’t want anything hanging down if I’m shoving stuff in back door (no pun intended).

It’s tricky getting the usb socket through the gaiter, and getting the trim back on the tailgate but it’s doable and a nice neat solution.

It's the "proper* way to do it, but definitely more effort/work to do
