Car wash

Featured Replies

Hello guys, just a quickie, what are your thoughts on car washes, I would never put a new car through the ones where the plastic threads cut the paint to buggery but I use one with the rubber washers, are they OK? I know I should take the time to clean it with a bucket but I dont have the time. Cheers

My thoughts,

Dont.

Ditto, never have and never will use one. If you don't have time find a 'by hand' car wash. We have one around here which does a superb job for a

lummox, thanks but why, what do they do to damage the car ? BTW I have been reading these forums for a while now and I must say that without your posts this place would be far less informative!

Anything that is spinning that fast whacking againt the body is bound to scratch it, at the very least take the sheen off.

Also I think the detergents used are quite harsh. Not ot mention after that battering the car doesnt look all that clean anyhow.

Whats a rubber one?

I have to aggree. The £5 hand car wash places are the best. You can just sit back and relax!

will take a photo of the rubber one and post it in a bit, might just have to make the time to do it manually any advice on what wax to use ?

The other thought that concerns me is that the brushes pick up dirt from the front of your car and spread it all along it. What if it picks up a stone etc .... :(

Never had any probs putting a car through a car wash :D

Usually the car just stays dirty now though as I'm too tight to pay someone to clean it

The only car was I'd use is the bikini car wash in Nuneaton

Hand car wash for £5? No thanks, I'd take it through a car wash.

Try a hand job!!

I once heard about someone tying nuts and bolts to the brushes on an automatic car wash.....

Don't know if its true or not though....:P

Whats a rubber one?

Instead of using fast spinning brushes, it uses slow oscillating rubber strands (bit like a Vileda mop, if you know the ones I mean).

Took my Octy through one a few months back, and paid

I would stay away. You can clean your car to the same (low) standard with a bucket and sponge in about 5 minutes anyway. They never clean wheels properly and like to remove spoilers and aerials.

Never had a problem with my Silver Octy at the local car wash, and it did an OK job. Don't think I'll be taking the black one through, tho. Car wash did a better job than the "wash-while-u-shop" hand washers (which I also now won't use with the black car).

I would have thought that hand washes would have been just as risky with regards to your paintwork. How do you know they're not rubbing the grit they've wiped off in one stroke right back into the car with their manky sponge?

Use either or use none :)

Manual says car wash will be fine...
