2012 Octavia 1.6 high revs and fan on after switch off

Featured Replies

Morning folks.

I have the above Octavia, and I have an issue with the revs. Normal running it'll idle at 7-800rpm. other times, even after only driving a few minutes, the car will increase revs to 1000, and stay there. The engine temp will increase quite quickly to 90 degrees and the gear changes become snatchier. I'm not getting any DPF or engine management lights on the dash. Drive long enough and it'll settle down and go back to normal. other times if the journey is short enough, it'll stay that way until I turn it off and the fan will come on for like 30-40 seconds afterwards. As you can see from the pictures, stopped and traffic and the revs haven't reduced as normal.

It this a sign that the engine it trying to clear the DPF filter? Or is there a malfunction in the DPF pressure sensor or other associated part?

I'd really like to know what it is as I'm selling the car in a few weeks (hopefully) and I don't want to sell it on with an issue like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me exactly like a regen. No light because the DPF is not clogged.

@Evolution13 It happens fairly often. Would I be able to get a bottle of something to help it clear out and then take it for a boot up the motorway?

It can happen with nearly new Diesels. Yours has likely had the VW Emissions Fix applied. New Engime Management Software and a Flow Device fitted to the Air Intake. Regens are just as required, your diesel or premium diesel is all that is needed. You could have the Ash Content of the DPF checked. But you are not getting a Clogged Warning, why worry? PS. Maybe go to a Gulf Filling Station & fill the tank with EvoUltra which is HVO and give the car an Italian Tuneup once the engine up to temp. (Not cheap though, 203.9 pence a litre here), or fill up with BP or ESSO even Shell Premium Diesel.

Mine does the same. The high idle followed by fans on after stopping are a failed regen. When I notice high revs I try to continue driving and give it for a good blast down the road at revs above 2500 for about 20 mins and it should complete the regen till next time. Mine is due to shorter runs than I used to do.

Thank you both. Yeah, I don't do long journeys really. Maybe 3 or 4 times a month. I'll try BP/Shell as we don't have Gulf or Esso here anymore.
