I have Skoda Kodiaq 2019 (SUV, Diesel 2.0). Today a message appeared on the dashboard "Check the oil level".
What kind of oil should I buy ?

Is the oil level actually low, how often do you check it?

Best idea would to to check the manual for correct oil spec - but if oil level is down, I'd guess you'd be looking for a fully synthetic oil that meets VW 504/507 specification - either 0W-20, 5W-20 or 5W-30 grade appear to be suggestions. There is also a later oil spec - VW 508/509.

IIRC, there may be an oil grade recommendation sticker on the scuttle adjacent to one of the headlights, visible when the hood is open.

correction

Is the recommended spec for that TDI from that year not VW 508 00 / 509 00,. so 0w 20 FS IV but actually 0w 30 FS III, which is as they were before that year. VW 504 00 / 507 00, but just not as it was & 5w 30 FSIII

Does not matter.

There are two warnings - first one is "check the oil level". Usually still about 4 liters of oil in engine block.

Second one is "oil level low" or similar. This is something that needs to be addressed to asap.

P.S. I use VW longlife 0W 30.

& there can be a 'Low Oil Pressure' (red oil can) warning before you get a 'Oil level low' with some VW Group / Skoda engines. Nice sweeping roads and spirited driving.

I got a “reduce oil level” warning about a month after picking up my used petrol Kodiaq, which had been serviced when I picked it up.

Not sure why the oil level would increase by itself in that time . 🤔

@OrvilleTheDuck Had it increased? Did you not remove oil? "reduce oil level'" Too much oi. "Reduced oil level" not enough!!! Does your car have a Dip Stick? Did you dip the oil when you first got the warning. As the Manual tells you to. @ Normal Operating Temperature, parked on the flat after a few minutes? Then compare that to Once the engine and oil had cooled to ambient temperature?

Reduce - as in too much so take some out.

I never got the chance to check it. I was actually near the dealer when it happened and drove in and they just sorted it there and then under warranty.

I didn’t get to speak to the actual operative and it’s been fine since. I think the assumption (from the service manger) was that at the service they had put a tad too much in and it eventually triggered a sensor somehow so they drained a bit off.

I admit am rather put off investigating modern cars too much myself, I was a mechanic many years ago but my other cars are from 1959 and 1970 which I can deal with.

Increased engine oil level on a TSI could possibly be a symptom of one or more leaking fuel injectors - or coolant leak!

Oil level should be checked as recommended and, if level has in fact increased, should be tested for possible contaminants.

Okay thanks I’ll keep an eye on that. I guess I’ll have to get my hands dirty and look under the bonnet! I might even enjoy it.

I’m sure this has been discussed dozens of time here before, but mine is set to variable time and distance servicing. We live in the country and when we go out we generally drive without any real traffic for maybe 30 to 60 minutes at normal country road speeds.

Is there a general consensus re variable v fixed service intervals?

Actually that’s probably not a question for this thread is it, a whole different subject maybe.
