2016 Skoda Superb Mk3 – Bonnet Stuck Shut! Help Needed

Hi all, having a nightmare trying to get the bonnet open on my 2016 Skoda Superb Mk3 280 4x4 (UK RHD).

Original problem:

  • Driver’s-side bonnet latch released normally.

  • Passenger-side latch remained locked.

  • Interior release handle was still working.

What I’ve done:

  • Removed the driver’s-side wheel-arch liner.

  • Located the bonnet-release cable behind the headlight.

  • Managed to release the driver’s-side latch.

  • Unfortunately, while pulling the cable, the junction box came loose and the cables disconnected.

  • The cable from the interior release handle has also detached from the junction.

Current situation:

  • Bonnet is completely stuck shut on the passenger side.

  • Driver’s-side latch is released.

  • Passenger-side cable is disconnected and inaccessible.

  • Cannot reach the passenger-side latch due to the radiator and surrounding structure.

  • Cannot remove the grille or bumper normally because the upper fixings are beneath the bonnet.

Looking for advice:

Has anyone experienced this on a Superb Mk3 or managed to manually release the passenger-side bonnet latch?

I’m happy to sacrifice smaller parts if necessary, but would prefer not to cut into the bonnet.

Any advice, diagrams or alternative methods would be massively appreciated!

No idea but looks like a dreadful problem and hope someone comes along with some creative solution!

Not sure if much help but this is the diagram of the cables from the manual:

The only thing I can think of is the sacrifice the front bumper. If you disconnect everything from the bumper lower fixings, both wheel arches, washer hose, electrical plugs etc, and see if you can flex it out enough it may be that there is enough softness in the upper parts that are still attached that the bumper can flex up and out of the way to allow you to reach the latch mechanism or cables.

Guide to front bumper removal here, also with pictures of it removed so you can work out an approach.

You have my sympathies, it’s a nightmare situation, I had the bonnet stuck shut on my Golf - I was amazed at how difficult all the workarounds were…….

Dealer / specialist job. They’ll know the workarounds without breaking anything. I had this happen in 2020, two months after getting the car when it went in for warranty work. The cable had slipped somewhere, the handle had zero tension and neither side would open. The dealer had it open and fixed in 30 mins with nothing broken at all. Oddly it wasn’t covered by warranty….🙄
