Where is my oil light!?

Featured Replies

I randomly noticed that my oil light didn't seem to be on the dash when I started up. Couldn't remember where it was, or even it it should light up when you first switch on.

Picture below from the short video I made when starting the car.

Can someone advise - should there be an oil light at first, and can you post a picture of your mk2 (petrol) starting up?

What could the problem be?

It probably only illuminates when the level is low (yellow) or the pressure is low (red).

Find and unplug the oil pressure switch and go for a drive, you'll soon see a red light methinks. Usually the only sensor on the engine with just one wire going to it.

If this is a 1.2 TSI, it's near the top of the engine, rear left, plug goes downward onto it.

To see ones lit up look at Google Imaged. Key words Fabia MK3 low oil pressure red can. Or low oil level. Plenty weed posted showing on Fabia MK2 vRS threads.

It may appear in the centre display only when needed. Found this online

My sons mk1 is more basic and has an oil warning light in dash with a really annoying very loud chime every time a warning appears including low on fuel. Everytime it gets low on fuel you think something major has happend.

Thank you Alasdair1, that looks like my situation with the lights, the ignition light is on so the engine hasn't started, but the oil light isn't there apart from the warning (which I don't have). I know it has both level checking and pressure checking, but wasn't sure how it responds to one or both.

Might be worth removing oil sensor wire as breezy pete said to check its actually working. My sons mk1 illuminates red for a few secs after an oil change then off. I am like you cant remember if its there at ignition or not.
