Octavia VRS Mk4 - real life MPG

Featured Replies

Hi - I'm looking at selling my 18 plate VRS estate ( diesel) 185BHP which gives me regular 45 - 52 mpg (depending on journey type). I'm currently looking at some 24/25 plate Mk 4's ( petrol obviously ) at 240/260 BHP and was wondering what the real world MPG figures might be compared to the Skoda figure of 40. I've always found most manufacturer figures are always very optimistic to say the least.

Thanks - Ian.

I've lived with mine for 3.5 years now and get anything from 11.6 km/l to 13.8 km/l in mixed driving in Christchurch, NZ. Apologies, you'll have to do the conversion to Imperial units on your own.

It is quite frugal but has the grunt when you need it.

Hope the above helps in your decision.

Thanks CKO that's good to know. Your best figure is basically what Skoda give as an average mpg .

I'll just have to live with petrol MPG now given the demise of the good old diesel VRS.

Thanks again - Ian.

I had a 14 plate diesel vrs, moved to a 23 plate petrol vrs estate and difference was very small most of the time. 40mpg average is realistic. Recently got a 26 plate with the 265bhp - slightly down on previous mpg figures but hoping its still loosening up

I test drove an ex demo 26 plate 265 BHP yesterday - 1100 miles on the clock - and noticed the average mpg over that mileage was 25 !!! but that's probably ( hopefully ) due to Demo drives and no long journeys.

My long-term average is 39.5 over 11.5k. I easily get 46 mpg for long runs (500 miles) to the in-laws sticking to speed limits (fairly certain if you wanted to sit at 60mph on the inside lane you'd see 50 but this isn't for me). Actually better than I was expecting before I got the car. My usage involves daily 20 mile runs to/from work with a mixture of roads with a fair few short stop-start ones over weekends. All includes some heavier throttle usage where the roads permit.

It depends on your use case everyone is different. You can get low 50s on flat motorway but mid twenties n slow traffic. Overall the engine is pretty economical given the performance available. The car isn’t optimised for economy.

For contrast I’ve been driving a new Peugeot 2008 for the last 2 months on holiday and over 9,000km it’s averaged 49mpg. That’s a mix of slow traffic to 130-140km/h from a 1.2l turbo triple mild hybrid. Not bad but I’m looking forward to getting back into the Skoda
