To Greenstuff or not to Greenstuff?

Featured Replies

I fancy a bit less break fade and I hear that aftermarket break pads are a cheap and easy way to improve on your cars breaking power.

I have a 2.0 l fabia (yes the supercar version) :D and I was thinking about getting some Greenstuff break pads for her.

I read on here that they can warp the disks though :confused:

- I'm not up for that :(:P

Is this true? Has anyone had any positive experiences with them?

Are there any other disks that you recommed? Where can I get them from? (U.K)

Thanks a lot guys.

ebc / greenstuff = avoid at all costs.

get ds2500

I'd agree with Paul - go for DS2500s if you can afford them.

Steve

Deffo avoid Greenstuff.

DS2500 very good indeed.

I had no problems with the greenstuffs at all, infact I was really impressed with them.

hmmmm... they are cheaper.....

I ran 312's with EBC turbogroove disks and EBC greenstuff pads with 5.1 fluid and the braking was immence.

I was running that for around 10k miles, my disks didn't warp, and I dont brake gently either.

I destroyed the standard brakes on my MR2 recently due to braking far too hard, far too many times - can't say I am proud of that, I've changed my braking way's.

What I am saying is I put my brakes through some abuse and I was mighty impressed with my EBC set up.

EBCs dont tend to warp the turbo groove discs in my experiance.

Will they be ok on my standard 2.0 fabia's disks?

Fitted a set for Rallyday track time. Great leading up to it, great on the track, complete crap ever since. They don't like getting hot. Wish I had bought DS2500's.

ah i c....:(

If you're going for Greenstuff, I'd recommend upgrading to the EBC discs. If you're sticking with standard discs, get some Ferrodo DS2500's. Also worth uprating the brake fluid at the same time :D

Zimmermans hold up too.

I tried Greenstuff, they caught fire

Dread to think what they would do on track.

Get DS2500. Order from Demon Tweeks and get a 10% discount

I agree, greenstuff = brownstuff.

They're good at first, which is why the magazines all rave about them, but get them hot a couple of times, and you might as well use processed cheese (well, not quite, but you know what I mean)

I've got BD predators on the Saab, it's a big heavy lump that takes some stopping, and their performance is fantastic. Dunno if you can get them for the fab, try www.motorsportworld.com.

Hi

No I have known them go with the Zinnermans too.

This was the first that I was aware that the Green stuffs warped discs

2 sets of discs went with them

Sorry

There are the Tarox pads too. They are not that far off OEM prices too

break fade

I know what you mean but "break fade" is a tired raver. Brakes are what you've got on your car :)

I second Ferodo DS pads or maybe Pagids or Mintex. In theory you've got to get "road legal" pads. As I've yet to replace the pads on the Furby, I haven't had the pleasure of trying to figure it all out.

If you go with the DS2500s, they aren't great when cold. So don't charge at T junctions early in the morning to get to work on time.

I never had any problems stopping with cold DS2500's :D

Me neither, and they last forever. Only downside to them is the rather aggressive dust.

Pagid blues are supposed to be a good alternative.

I have EBC reds on the Porker and I'm not very impressed so far.

Me neither :D

I have used Greenstuff in the past, I didn't have a problem with warped disks in particular but the friction material started to crumble which I wasn't massively pleased about. I have read that the compound was changed to prevent them from breaking up but from what I can gather they have just introduced a nice new array of problems.

'Been using Mintex since with no complaints although they are more dusty than the EBC pads.

I've BD combi disc with DS 2500 all round, and you will notice that the brakes don't bite very well if say your on the motorway for a long time and someone pulls out in front, you have to stand on the brakes before the'll work but they don't have super hot to work just a little warn and there grand..........

Maybe 's me then, weak right leg muscles or some-at. Takes a right old booting to cause the ABS to trigger and I almost can't do it from cold.

DS2500s in these....

Edit: Alyn at AS Performance suggested Pagids RS4.2.1 or RS4.2.2 for more cold bite (via e-mail). I had a little moment when I priced them up though. I can't justify spending the best part of £250 - £300 on brake pads.

J.

It seems a contradiction but it's true - DS2500s stop the car better, but very seldom trigger the ABS
