Went into a local Skoda dealer this lunch and asked how much I'd get for my 11,000 mile 55 reg Edition 100 (PD130 manual) against one of their vRS demos.

Given that the cheapest Edition 100 for sale in the UK at the moment is

If you did trade in at £11.5, I wonder what the sticker price on the forecourt would be?

Excuse my ignorance but what is an Edition 100?

Is it higher spec than a Classic/Comfort/Elegance?

This thread makes clear how important it is to get the best deal possible on a new car, always use the internet as a guide (eg Drive the Deal) and if your local dealer wont match the price buy via a broker.

What I was trying to point out was the pathetic prices offered by the dealers - they want top dollar for their cars and want to pay nothing for p/ex's. I know that's why they're in business, but there wasn't a suggestion of upping the offer.

At the time I bought the car, I paid £3k+ less than the cheapest available Edition 100 at dealers at the time. I would not have been able to knock anywhere near as that much off the screen price.

If I was offered a half decent price, I would have considered changing to a vRS. There's a nice Subaru Legacy 3.0R for sale near me - might see what they'd give me.

Which is also a very contributary factor to dealers closing due to falling sales. Where is the saving money factor if you have to drive 100 miles to your nearest Skoda dealer everytime you need a service or warranty work done?

Nonsense...if you buy from a broker the car comes from a UK dealer!

I paid

According to my office mate who's just bought one of these, dealers are very keen to shift them so are doing excellent deals. He got about 3k off the original forecourt price, plus they gave him an above book figure for his S-reg Audi A3. He's off on a driving holiday to Germany at the moment, so we'll see if he's been sold a clanger!

Regardless of where the broker gets the car from, it is a stated reason by many failing car dealers that the internet has impacted on their new car sales. Couple that with a drop in new car sales and a strong used car market and you have closing dealers.

Then they are failing because they are not competitive enough, that's the free market.....sorry I am a child of Thatcher!

It seems to me that the dealers that close will be the ones that don't embrace change eg they are unwilling to work with the brokers. The choice is theirs; progress or die out.

Personally I am not willing to pay a £2k premium to support the Skoda dealer network, luckily there are plenty others around to do that. As I said Thatcher's child.

Go along with that Dan. Just buying Elegance and dealer offered little discount. Broker £3410. No guessing which route I took and still end up buying from a franchise dealer. Will do my bit with local dealer via servicing. Market will always set the level. What I do need them to show me is what the new anthracite grey looks like.
