I have an Octavia VRS with the standard 205/50/17 tyres and may have access to a cheap set of 205/40/17's. Can anyone tell me how this will affect the handling of the car, or if this is a route best avoided.

Will make the wheel too small. Speedo will be incorrect plus it will look a bit silly.

So that answers my missus's question of weather I could take off the fairly new yokohamas from my escort and fit them to my octy when I get it to save some money :( - the octy's rears are only in the 3-4mm range and look like they are well on the way! (And some pillock has dented the sil with the jack when changing them )

Put in the sizes you are asking about and you will see the differences. Put the 205/50 17 as the standard
