DV to replace or repair?

It was that "fart" like noise -when releasing the throtle -that make me dismontal my DV. I think is broken - It doesn't hold vacum on the small pipe side.

I tought that I can service it as shown on Forge's web page. But it seems to me that I cannot dismantle it. And it seems that instead of a piston shifting inside there is some rubber stuff (membrane is maybe the word - can't tell in english).

I ordered a new one for 30EUR. When I will get the new one I wil break this one and post some photos.

Is it a threat to the turbo to drive it for about 1000Km untill the new DV arrive?

It can be. I believe that the turbo can stall which can cause the vanes to crack/shatter and deposit their bits into the engine, which is not considered to be a "good thing".

The standard one can't be dismantled, the Forge, Bailey, Hyperboost etc etc can be.

It would be dangerous with a dump valve that didn't, i.e. release unwanted boost. However what more often happens is that the diaphragm in the standard one gets punctured with the result that it won't hold boost in the first place - not dangerous to the turbo at all - unless it blows up in frustration :D

from your description sounds like you have the standard DV and the diaphragm has split.

You can't repair this. Either get a new standard DV or get yourself a Forge, Bailey et al (piston type DV which is serviveable).

Robert, if your DV looks like the one in the centre of this picture, then it is the standard one and is not repairable.

I think that the punctured diaphragm will make the DV to hold the boost "for ever" since the vacum created after the throtle valve cannot open the DV so the overboost is discharged/returned towards the intake. As I understood a diagram that was quoted somwhere in this forum.

Robert, that was my understanding as well, which leads to the compressor stalling.

From my time flying jet aircraft I can confirm that compressor stalls are not to be recommended!

But that had 2 jet engines in the Mk 3 version (as at Duxford), Mike, plus I was a qualified flying instructor on the Jet Provost. :D
