Broken bump stop

Featured Replies

Hi,

My rear suspension on the drivers side has a broken bump stop. Basically, its a piece of plastic that covers the metal rod. Is it a replaceable item, or is it a new damper? Any tips on getting the damper out? Or tips on replacing the bump stop really?

Ta!

The bump stop (aka spring assistor) is easy enough to change. Remove the damper (2 16mm bolts at the top and 1 16mm nut and bolt at the bottom). Take off the plastic cap on the top of the damper and undo the 16mm nut, slide off the top mounting and remove the plastic damper shield. Poke out whats left of the old bumpstop. Fit a new one to the guard and rebuild.

Thanks Mr Lummox, I had a feeling you'd know somehow.

I'll have a go later on in the week when I get a new part.

Lucky it's the rear Richard, nice and easy.

Jack up the car, remove rear wheel, remove inner arch liner, two bolts at the top hold the top mount in place, take them out. Remove the lower bolt and then you can take the damper out.

You'll need to undo the top nut to get to the bump stop.

Bugger - you always beat me Ross.

I must learn to type faster.
