The Z is sick (again)

Featured Replies

Yep, I'm back in a Nissan Note today as the Z is in with the dealer.

Mystery creaking from the front end, persistantly noisy gearbox (that they agree is noisier than their used/demo cars), creaking passenger seat, creaking passenger door when it opens and a creak in the hood mechanism. Engine light was on this morning again as well.

I'm suprised its not just the Renault engine thats causing you problems Phil...

It is a shame though, I'd have thought the Z would be a dream to own and faultless reliability. Gutted for you.

It still drives faultlessly, and if it diddnt have a warrantly and a dealer on my way to work I probably wouldnt bother about the creaking.

The noise is still highly addictive.

Doesn't bode well when a £30k Japanese car is proving unreliable...

Met up with my brother a week ago and he was keen to tell me how his RX8 is still creak/rattle free and still feels like new (but faster) after 12k miles.

Suspect the RX8 was cheaper too... :D

Mind you, probably a bit slower and uses more fuel/oil.

Yes, the RX was cheaper - but I refused to buy one on the grounds that my brother has one and they dont do a soft-top version.

The reviews rate the 2 pretty evenly, some saying the Z is better and others going for the RX.

Whilst the RX uses more oil, I doubt my brother is still waiting to see average MPG over 20 like I am !

I thought Datsuns were reliable...... but then again, it is just a Renault in a pretty frock :haha:

Pretty?!?!?! :eek::confused::rofl:

It is reliable - in that it starts first time and has never stopped working.

Every car I've ever owned has had creaks and rattles, but this is the first brand new one with a warranty though so I want it sorted.

Bad news is that some users on the Z forums have had issues with the gearbox, symptoms the same as mine are followed some motnhs later by an inability to change gear. The dealer claims to know nothing of this and are considering chaning the oil today.

RX-8... Go on, part ex for the PZ, its an amazing car.

it's not A renault engine Goochie has denied this.

He didn't jump down your throught like he did me though.

Shame to hear about your gearbox problems and creakies!

Some people prefer that though, rather than a diesel which requires no effort to go fast and has an embarrassing engine note.

I am far happier reving the nuts off the MR2 and having an almighty engine roar to go with it, than I was with the vRS.

Each to there own ey?

Sorry to hear of your troubles Gooch, doesn't sound good for a

very true. I think the engine sounds good in a way in the VRS. yes may not be as lary as a petrol in the V zone but still ok.

Yeah but how many fence posts can you get in one.

30,000 pounds for a 350Z?????

Yep, we have these things called "taxes" :(

Slow, smelly and don't handle very well? :D

yes, shame you have to rev it like a b"tch still to go anywhere

You obviously didn't have time to get used to it when you drove one. For normal driving you don't need to use more than 3k revs. :P

Better get used to it being in the garage, my mate has only had his 8 monthe and its been in the dealers for 3 months. Various faults, main one the gearbox being replaced, but also a lot of electrical faults, hes loves it when it's going though

Well, the creaking front end is due to the ball joints. A common problem well documented on the forums.

The engine light is "on for no reason" but may be related to "you drive it har ddont you?" so has been reset. They suggest changing from BP ultimate to Optimax. Shell garage is 10 mile sfrom here so I'll try Sainsburys SUL first.

The passenger seat still creaks but they'll ahve a solution when it goes back for the ball joints next week. The gearbox will be attended to at that time too but the guy diddnt really want to say what they were planning to do.

A colleague reckons when I collect it next time they'll say "we changed a ball joint.... oh and gave you a new gearbox"
