How much has it cost, jason?

Featured Replies

Just wondered how much you've spent on the mongrel project so far Jason ? Give or take £1000 should give us an idea.

In the mean time, lets see how far off our estimates are ;)

Is this just for the 'modifications' or the car itself as well?

Everything, including buying the vehicle used as the body. Does not include the written off VRS.

I think £5k for the car, and probably £7k for the conversion etc...

I suppose hes mad a bit selling old parts mind. My guess on £11k. :)

Assumed you meant just the mods - another vote for 10,000+ or "should have just bought a vRS" ;)

Chris

about enough to by an S4 i think :)

One mans madness is another mans clarity.

The cost is almost irrelevent compared to the fun and learning that comes with a project like his. There are hundreds of VRS's but only one Mongrel....

or "should have just bought a vRS" ;)

Chris

I dont even think that. Should of left it as a PD100 just changed the turbo, injectors, fmic, suspension and whatever was needed to fit 312mm and left it looking like it did when he bought it :)

Jason wrote off a vRS?!

How did he do that?

Sing in the tune of a well known childrens song.....

There was Jase in the Fab and the little car said "roll over, roll over"

So the Fab rolled over and the windows fell out, body was smashed but the airbags did nowt.

Roll over, roll over.

He bought one :)

Jason didnt buy a written off vRS, thats what he should have done. Instead he just kept sourcing parts off the same written off car in a scrapyard.

This is true, but could never find one when I needed one.

Easily 10k+ if you include buying the car around 18 months before project mongrel got underway.

Roughly this is split down into 5,900 for the car (was only 3 years old) and then roughly around 7,500 for the conversion, but don't forget this wasn't "just" a conversion to PD130. To just get it to PD130 I'd have been looking at around 3,000 I reckon. 4,500 was spent on new turbo, pipework, FMIC, 312mm conversion (i.e hubs, centre console, etc).... and the eventual remapping too. This is what put the cost up so much, but I was never just going to do a PD130.

The project never stops though. In a lull at the moment before the bigger turbo starts to be sourced and fitted, mapped, etc. :D

Can we have another poll for the current resale value :(

Can we have another poll for the current resale value :(

n/a, as I'm never selling it.

However I concur your point that it is not sellable at all really, but it matters not. To me its worth 3 times what it is to anyone else. It is no longer considered a monetary asset by myself. Just a toy. :D If it ever gets to the point it becomes an impractical daily driver, I'll simply get some £250 commuter hack car for going to work. :)

Just out of interest....

What's you current BHP/Torque and what are you hoping to get after the bigger turbo & new map?

How's putting the power down going?

Currently circa 220hp/360lb/ft now and hoping for more bhp but not so much torque rise, so around 260hp/400 lb.ft would be a good target. Might get more though.

At the moment power is put down fairly well. 3rd is a good gear, bt for serious progress there's little point bothering with 1st and 2nd on full throttle. Just get 3rd at about 2000rpm and WOOOOOOSH, we're off!

Clearly my poll options were a little off the mark. The Mongrel look slike it's going to be the only £21,000.00+ Fabia non-vrs ;)

OK, everyone - you can stop voting now he's told us how much it cost

I'd love to see a poll for a forecast of what I WILL spend in the future too. As I'm keeping it, this is likely to be a lot, but until I start passing accountancy exams, my salary is crap, and I have little to no dosh to spend on the car (time as well) :(

Just a thought but what about two engines in the same car...........think about it.... 260 bhp as standard ..no problems getting the power down as all the wheels are driven :D

rear engined.....proper skoda re bourn!!!! and rear wheel drive:rolleyes:

one for either Jason/VW VRS

How much power has the LPG added would you estimate or have either of you had it setup on a RR yet to properly make use of it?

It seems all has gone quiet about this mod, is it because it isn't that effective at all or because you haven't had much time to try it??

Also, specifically @ VW VRS I notice your still using CC1, given the number of modifications now on your car when are you going for CC2/3?
