Has anyone tried one of these Halfrauds air con recharge kits for about

There are bacteria in the air con system, this happens due to the condensation that forms in the heater box around the evaporator, this is what makes the old socks smell.

As for the recharge kits, I wouldnt trust them myself. It misses alot out of the correct sequence for regassing an A/C system and if for example your system has enough gas in it but isnt working for another reason I would think you can overfill it and possibly damage something.

I just had my system recharged for just under £90 including an anti bacterial flush, a top up and full inspection. The dealers were cheaper than third party companies which was nice. All very good too.

THe bacterial thing I would say is definately an issue as i was having seriosu sore throats and hayfever like issues, which only occured when i had been in the car with the air con on fo ra reasonable period of time.

So far so good, i havn't had quite the same effect since it was done :)

I used the halfords topup kit with gauge on my old Mondeo (9 years old and 157000 miles), I am not so sure about using it on a more expensive car.

There are 2 problems,

1) the guage is a very inaccurate way of topping up and could result in you putting to much in.

2) if the system has a hight pressure its impossible to use the can up, I put all I could squeeze into the mondeo but the pressure between the can and system equalised meaning you can get no more out of the can. I have lovely cold air, but dont know if I have enough or to much gas.
