Nail in Tyre

Featured Replies

Damn. Been out to the car, there is a nail in the tyre, near the sidewall. Put the spare on & took it up to the local dealer, he says it won't repair cos it's too close to the sidewall, quoted my

and it's only done 6,000 miles....

I recently had to buy a new Goodyear and it was about that price. Get a second opinion on the repair though. If it is really near the sidewall then fair enough, mine was dead centre and Charlie Browns said they wouldn't repair due to the speed rating hence the new tyre. I later found out that Kwik Fit would allow one repair on a tyre with that rating. :grumpy:

Is the punture on the front? How about putting the rears on the front (6k miles they'll be like new) and put your new tyre and spare on the back. Use the old front as your spare. If you do swop around though make sure you have all the tyres rebalanced. Round here Kwik Fit are the most accurate for balancing.

There's usually 2 options with a puncture near the sidewall...

1) Bin the tyre & buy new...

2) A Factory Repair. I dont know how much it costs, but i've been given the option before. However on the occasion it happened to me i just bought a new tyre.

Might be worth trying a couple of different places ;)

Are you local to Harrogate in North Yorkshire? What size tyre is it I might have one in the workshop you can have cheep?

I'm over in Carlisle, Cumbria. I will try a few other dealers here tommorrow. I will try and get it repaired & just use it as a spare, wouldnt like to trust a repaired tyre at high speed.

I agree totally. A get you home tyre only. Good shopping tomorrow.

Sorry mate but if close to the edge know-one will touch it, dont get a re-tread as I heard so many horror stories, buy a cheap and cheerful get you home.....
