Which brakes for Big Turbo car?

Featured Replies

My for sale thread here was getting a little off topic so I've started a new one here. I'll PM a mod asking for the for sale ad cleaning up and relevant posts moving to this thread.

I currently have 4 pot brembo calipers with 323mm single piece discs on my 400+bhp Octy 4x4. I'm currently considering my upgrade options. 2 piece discs are essential IMO and I'm weary of 6 pot calipers as I think the standard master cylinder isn't upto the job.

So any suggestions, links, advice, etc.. please post in here.

I've had a look for AP setups as suggested by Jon in the other thread.

330mm 4pots are £1560 and 330mm 6pots are £1880. I'm struggling to find much info other than that on the AP setups.

The setup currently at the top of my list uses Porsche 993 Turbo calipers, discs and pads with custom bells and brackets. This kit brings the 993T from 125 to standstill in 5seconds and is also designed to reign in the 993T from it's 180mph top speed. Cost is $1895 + shipping + import duty + vat.

From a styling point of view I'd like to change from the current red calipers to slightly more discreet black ones.

If upgrading the capilers it would be sensible to upgrade the master cylinder, would it not?

You may find a Caravelle (or similarly large VW) master cylinder is larger and up to the job.

I'd like to upgrade the master cylinder but it's finding one that's the same fitment. There's one for the Transporter that appears the same fitment when looking at ETKA but there's no way to tell other than buying one. I don't know of anyone that has changed the master cylinder and made the info public but I'm sure some of the big power R32's in the US must be running uprated units.

I've edited your f/s thread Eddy.

I know Stuart has been very pleased with the service from Godspeed, I'll give them a call.
