Glad to see someone else follows this rally. Haven't seen the last two stages yet, so the outcome is in doubt. We have watched it for the last 3 years on the Dish. Great competition and sportsmanship. Fabrizia Pons waving cars away from the swimming pool that outed the Kleinschmidt VW!!! Can you imagine a NASCAR or Baja driver stopping to tow someone out of a sand pit or offer a biker some gas? Right!

And the "TRUCKS!!!" They are really exciting.

Also, my wife and I love the scenery. Awsome photography.

I wish the VWs were doing better, but it is a new car. Can't believe diesels are so fast and reliable.

2 Rides die on the Dakar!

The 2005 Dakar was the scene of another very sad day with the death of Fabrizio Meoni, a day after Spanish biker Jose-Manuel Perez passed away in an Alicante hospital after crashing during stage 7.

The Italian biker had taken the start of the day's stage 11 in second spot overall, over 9' behind Cyril Despres. The leading bikers had been riding together on the fast course early in the special. Indeed five riders made it bunched at CP1 (Despres, Meoni, Esteve, Coma and Fr

Sam Sunderland became the 1st British entrant to win the Dakar Rally on Saturday when he took victory in the bikes classification. He was 32 mins ahead of the 2nd place rider.
