Folding on a downward slope

Featured Replies

Our folding progress seems to be slowing a bit  - its showing a bit of a downward slope here

We've just had 5 members of the team become active again, so hopefully that will make a difference, but 65 are inactive at the moment.

Anyone else going to join us, or re-activate their folding efforts?

Could be down to summer hols...I've had my machines turned off for over two weeks while we've been away.

Back on now though :D

I won't be folding again.

It slowed my computer down and heated my room like a radiator.

Best thing I did was turn folding off.

Interestingly, my daily points have gone up by 75-100 points using the same machines :D

Chris

I won't be starting up again made my PC very hot and slow

Still running flat out, strange as none of the three pc's at home are affected by performance issues, including my HTPC that uses a lot of CPU power itself when viewing TV. they get hot but thats it.

My PC has stopped folding as it can't communicate with the FAH server. I even deleted my folding in services, and started a new folder with the exe file, and it cranked off and also couldn't communicate. Well odd, but since this time I've not been folding either. Bit disappointing really and i don't know how to get around it. :)

I've had major issues communicating with the FAH server then also had to remove 4 cores to do some real work.

I've just finally got round to setting this up on 2 of my home machines :)

Two of mine are doing units with 20,000 frames/bits/whatever. It's taking some time!

Talking of folding - does anyone know how it handles dual CPUs? Does it use both or do you have ot do something clever? I ought to read the instructions really!

You have to do something clever to get both cpus going. Details are on here somewhere, but basically you need to use the console client and not the graphical one.

FINALLY! My PC has connected and downloaded a new work unit.... Cranking over again finally. Only taken two weeks to do it.

Yeah Rob, to run on multiple CPU's you run two console apps and no graphical clients.

Before you set them running you need install each client in its own directory (eg folding, folding2, folding3 etc) You also need to configure each client so the machine ID is different on a single machine.

(Now a bit off topic)

Also how are you finding the aero wipers, finding mine are great in the downpours that have been around over here recently :)

Hope that helps.

I just had a 50,000 frame unit. Took 10 days, but I got 614 points for it!

I'll have a look at that. It's only a dual Pentium III 733 but I might as well use both CPUs.

As for the wipers - well worth doing I think. They're rather good and look ace !

The local dealr couldn't understand why I'd replace my wipers and arms unless someone had nicked them!!

The team seems to be slowly climbing up the ranks now... gone from 131 to 125 in the last couple of weeks :D

When I get myself settled back on the mainland I'll be able to get my dual core AMD 64 rig going again, plus may add to it as well ;)

I'm still folding away ;)

2 PCs running most of the time, and a 3rd that contributes occasionally.... my average has dropped off a bit lately tho, don't know why!

Mine's dropped way off. Left my PC ticking over whilst away in Bristol during the past 2 weeks, and it seems to have crashed after just one day.... Plus its working on some unit which is taking about 2 hours to do 1%..... Shocking. So, despite me being greyed out on the overclocking scores, it's still going.... slowly.

Same here - hope the points have helped - but goin to be switching the PC off from now on

I'm still contributing, but not with the same fervour I was once. I usually turn PC's off over night, and when I first started I'd leave them on. Now I just carry on as I used to. Sometimes stop the process if I'm burning CD's etc, as I've found it can affect the process. But its usually there ticking away slowly. Like my current position though... 69 DUDE!!!

Anyone else noticed teh FAH servers becomming increasingly unreliable?

Aye, I have had a couple of issues where my FAH could not communicate with FAH servers.... :thumbdwn: Going OK at the moment though.

I found using the dos version of the client is a lot more efficient.

My rig will run the folding and let me watch divx/use photoshop/surf no problem. My laptop is a it slower but copes fine.

I see Caz (Pusscat) is catching me having made rapid progress up the 'leaderboard' - I have had stuff off for two weeks mind, when on holiday - will have to get a wriggle on, see if I can get folding running anywhere else :rubchin: :D
