Front Wiper Problem!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Car: Octavia Ambiente 2001. UK registered.

My front wipers are playing up out of the blue....When I turn ignition the front wipers will start wiping 8-12 times then stop anywhere on the windscreen. This happens even when the wipers are turned OFF. When I startthe engine, the wipers will again start wiping and stop anywhere they want to.

The only way to get the wipers down to the 'rest'position is to turn them on again and off until they eventually stop in the right place. However it can take 3-5 times before I achieve this!

Has anyone experienced this before or more importantly advise on how to fix it?

It is up for MOT soon, and I had been thinking of selling it when it passes so I really wasnt wanting to spend alotof money replacing wiper motors etc?

Thanks to all for your time/patience and advice. Greatly appreciated.

Might just be the relay.........

My merc has started doing this and it is down to the comination switch - posh relay. Should be a cheap fix for you so don't panic.

Per chance does anyone know where this is located in the Octavia?

Is it a simple job of taking one out and putting new one in myself?

Cheers

I would think its a faulty motor as that where the park control is.

Usually is the motor when this happnes.

Are the wipers operating at normal speed, or are they really slow and juddery?

normal?

More likely to be a motor related issue then. If there were juddery and slow then it could have been linkage related. Mine would judder really slowly and then cut out (probably as the motor shutdown to excess heat!)
