Why Does It Always Rain On Me??????????

Featured Replies

My new VRS is outside, I have a whole week off work and it has done nothing but RAIN:mad:

Seriously, I have been getting used to the car and managed to get 51 mpg driving sensibly on a long run yesterday (I can when I try, after all I am a ladyeeeeeeeeeee:P )

is this about average for 2005 Fabia VRS ? or is it my driving? whilst this is economical, I had hoped it to be higher, well I can only keep trying, can't I?:D

I generally average 45-47. So you're still beating me :-(

My average is just over 50mpg so you're doing ok. How many miles has your car done? Mine is now on 7500 and the efficiency is slowly improving.

If its really shiny spanking new, the MPG will much get better as you put some miles on it.

Clearly you didn't spot the "...is this about average for 2005 Fabia VRS.." :)

Averaged 46 mpg from new, now got 759 miles on her ;) and that includes a run out with the guys and gals of Brisky!

Is it because you lied when you were 17?

:D

I can get anything from 38 to 60, depending what's in the CD player.

;)

I'm averaging 58mpg (that's 58mpg genuine, 70mpg indicated) from new (916 miles in 11 days) - I'm using about 75% throttle and I would swear that it's more economical if you keep it above 2000rpm.

Check your tyre pressures - you never know!

I never really bother checking the average mpg. I suppose it's where I never had all this information at my finger tips before, but I will report back after my trip and compare my 06 to the rest of you.

The read-out on my car lies hideously. The discrepancy is something like 12mpg over 400 miles or so. I'm hoping it's all relative though as I think it's great entertainment to see how economically I can drive when I'm not in a hurry. Driving at 30mph in 30 zones is incredibly efficient and then at the end no-one can overtake you as you've go so much acceleration:D

:D

20 when i'm trying, 45 mpg realistic urban driving mostly.

No offence to anyone and this isn't a rant just an observation but, whats the point of getting a VRS and getting 50/60+ mpg. It's like getting a sportsbike and going around at 40 mph all day. I average 46 genuine day to day which seems about right according to other posts. I don't speed everywhere, I'm 47 driven/rode for 30 years, passed advanced tests bike and car, etc.etc. stick to 30/40/50 limits. Above that drive to the conditions. The main joy of the car is it's in gear acceleration so if you don't use it, again, why buy the car. Mabye I'm missing something here

People buy a VRS as a compromise. I you weren't bothered about how much fuel you're using surely you wouldn't buy a VRS in the first place? I do use the full in gear acceleration when I can and am still averaging 50mpg! I think it's mainly because I spend a lot of time in a queue of traffic where rapid acceration is not possible :(

No offence to anyone

None taken

Maybe I'm missing something here

Possibly you are.

I have a very straightforward drive to work. It's 30 miles there and 30 miles back. It's almost all on the A134 from Thetford to Sudbury. Maybe you know the road? It's supposed to be Johnny Herbert's favourite piece of road. The first 15 miles is pretty much a series of long straights where the vRS overtakes almost anything in 5th and 6th gears. After Bury, the last 15 miles is on tighter, smaller roads, where the acceleration in 3rd past other cars out of the 30 and 40 limited zones is the key for me.

I want to make rapid progress AT THE SPEED LIMIT. I don't want to be stuck behind a tractor or an HGV at 40mph - I want to be doing 60mph in NSLA zones.

By driving like this I use all the power of the car when necessary, and I benefit from the fuel economy as well. I'm well chuffed with mine. There's only ever me in the car, and it's very quiet and refined and I never get out of the car feeling frustrated - "I'd have been here 10 minutes ago if I'd had the power to get past the flippin' tractor!" doesn't occur to me at all anymore. And I'm actually looking forward to the sugarbeet campaign this year;)

I didn't buy the vrs because it was a diesel or for fuel consumption. I bought it because of the road tests and reviews I had read. For the money, build quality, performance etc. could not be matched and I tried every other car in the same class (2004). Anyway as long as everybody enjoys their car that is the main point.:)
