Update to my door leak...

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd post an update (in particular for MBAMES who posted a similar thread) on the leak into the car via the front doors.

As in previous posts, I had said I had suspected the install of the front speakers (upgrade).

Well today the result from the dealer was that as a result of the fool that installed the speakers cutting holes into the membranes the water finds its way into the car!!! (And the install guy said "from my experience there are no problems with water coming into the car" when I warned him)

So

Arh.... so the membrains.... is this plastic sheeting? if so where was it cut? mine has a cut now near the top where I installed my alientech controller, but I only did that a few weeks and I notice the leaking issue for months....

Behing the plastic clear sheeting, is a thicker looking metally sheet - not sure on the status of that, as there has been an alpine bypass using thing installed when the door speakers were uprated (by a previous owner).

Being that I forgot to attach the little light at the bottom of the door when I put the trim back on, I have a reason to take it apart again and check....

I believe it is the vacuum formed panel that looks like you say "metally".

The fella cut the hole where there is the 'dip for the speakers.

in that case, I expect that same thing has happened to mine :-( When I get a chance, I'll pop the speaker out and have a look

As i said in your other thread that the door needs to be sealed water tight including behind the speaker.

Yes , if you are going to cut the door liner to fit new speakers you need to cut a U shaped flap that will hang over the back of the speaker.

Any water will then run down that to the bottom of the door and the drain holes.

If you don't do this , cutting a circle for example then water will leak in
