According to a quick web search this points to MAF or a boost leak. And I'm pretty sure it's not a boost leak!

sounds like your on to it there rob

New MAF arrived yesterday so I fitted it and cleared the fault codes.

Started the car and all was smooth and lovely.

Started the car cold this morning and it was not right at all! Not as bad as it was, but hesitating, stuttering, generally playing up :(

Once the car had warmed up after about 15 minutes it was barely noticeable.

So, what to check next?

I'm notsure but is it possible that the ecu is re-learning that the maf is now working

I'll see how it goes over the next few days - at least all of the fault lights have gone!

Well it ran a lot more smoothly last night, but the check engine light is back.

Running okay but with hesitation at almost exactly 2000RPM.

I'll pull the fault codes again tonight and re-check all of the hoses.

Well I've found the source of my problems - the TIP had come off at the turbo end

  • 1 month later...

I have the same problem, noticed after remap, switched back to standard found it was still there just not so noticeable. I think I have found a cure, replaced fuel pressure regulator with 4bar one last week and haven't noticed any hesitation since.

Yea my Rs suffers from this as well, more noticable when cold (first few minutes of driving really) but occassionally crops up when warm.

My 2003 (03) VRS estate ha sthe same feature/fault normally happens a minute after starting from cold (when the fault happens I hear the climate control fans slow down to a stop also). Put my foot down and loose all power for a second, almost feels as if the car has stalled.

Dealer had a look, they found nothing wrong with it.

Yeah I was getting the same problem at cold on my Mk1 at about 2k rpm. Although I just slung in a pipercross panel filter and this seems to have relieved the problem. I don't think that this may be directly linked as I had unplugged the N75 & MAF cleaned the contacts while I was fighting to get the airbox lid back on. So i think that it may be the case that something is just fitting better.

Having problems too - has got noticeably worse since fitting a CAI (but was there before) - only does it in 1st and 2nd when cold - clears pretty much when warm.

So the recommendation is to clean the MAF and TB? - what do I need to use?

Cheers
