Ive just started using Tesco 99 Ron SUL this week, feels much better now, feels quicker and smoother, although i still get the problem, but thought i would say :)

well finally i think ive got my car sorted, ive had a knocking noise coming from the front off side i thought it might have been a bush or a link gone so i took it in to my local garage and he found a turbo pipe unbolted so he bolted it all back up and tided it all up its now running great all for

Mines a 95 vrs i have this same problem as the rest of you. Had the car in the dealers 3 times with this problem but on the last time took a tech out in it, then he drove it and he said there was something wrong with it even tho the computer said everything was ok. It goes back in this friday so they can have it for the day also head office is getting in touch with the dealer as i have been on to them aswel. Love the car but if they cant fix it, they can have it back.

It'll be interesting to hear what they come up with as the reason for it....

Mines a 95 vrs

you sure? they didn't make them till about 6 years later

My 4x4 once developed a bit of an occasional stutter in 1st gear, eventually engine warning light came on. Technician's report from dealer referenced fault codes mentioned in 'poor starting' bulletin for 1.8T engines, removed the throttle body and cleaned it. Been perfect ever since.

Anyone have anymore details on this?

I think the throttle body is the problem :) I spoke to a dealr a few weeks back and he agreed. Its a real pain though.

throttle body was really dirty and I cleaned on, so on one side it was not very efficient but it worked for me so ... i`m happy :)

Guess wot? mine's the same! how easy is it to clean the tb? must be worth a go!

I've got a this problem, but only slightly. Will put cleaning the TB on my list of jobs.

i think my problem is a different issue to others on here, mine is quite a violent loss of power rather than a slight change that you can drive around. mine cuts virtually all power when it does it.

That sounds like a collapsing pipe some where, when coming on boost.

Cleaning throttle body worked a treat for me, 4months on and still great.Give it ago before exploring anything else and replacing expensive parts that don't need to be replaced.

I cleaned my throttle body and the MAF, still had the problem, then investigated a bit further and found one of the air pipes was split. Its the one that connects to the bottom of the inlet manifold and a bast*rd to get to. replaced that. spot on now (touch wood).

I have this problem too!

I first noticed it after fitting my Carbonio CAI - fairly minor but when on constant throttle the car would sometimes hesitate a little then pick up again.

After having the CAI fitted for a couple of months I removed it last night to see if the problem went away. It's now much worse!

When cold the revs keep dying and the engine nearly stalls. The hesitation under acceleration is much worse too.

Have I damaged the MAF?

Gonna try cleaning it this evening.

Okay, I tried unplugging the MAF and running for a few km and the car ran much more quietly and smoohly - so it's a MAF issue. Trouble is now I've reconnected it my car is in low boost mode - only boosting to about 0.5BAR.

Need to plug into VAG-COM this evening - I forgot to take my laptop home last night

Not yet - but I've bought the gasket today in case I damage it (they had to order from Singapore, it came next day!!)

So I'll so that at the weekend.

Got a price on a new MAF too - $257 + GST which is about 110 quid. If I need one it will be cheaper to buy from the UK and pay the postage!!

Is the MAF an exchange because there's a surcharge for the old unit which makes the price here about
