Common(?) vRS 'hesitation'

Mine's a 52. Not old either really, but it seems to increase with time. ie. a brand new one probably wouldn't be as bad.

Skoda customer services will say "ask your dealer" who will say "seems OK to me - ahhhh you have a remap so thats the cause"

Exactly.

I may soon have a contact at the local dealers. If so, I'll try to get it sorted.

An easy work-around is to use full throttle all the time ;)

not on mine phil, mine does it even on full throttle and nearly threw swmbo into the windscreen last night followed by attempting to throw her into the boot when full power was restored.

mine is just really bad when pulling away and when you first start it up you can hear its not running right, the trouble is i try to compensate when pulling away and end up taking off like a rocket:P

lol

... I try to compensate when pulling away and end up taking off like a rocket:P ...

I'll have to remember that excuse next time I get pulled over by the Boys in Blue :D

" .. honestly Officer, it was the cars fault!"

Iam so glad its not just mine.

I have repalced plugs, coils, maf, collant sensor and considering n75.

Mine does it between 2-3k on part throttle in second gear and is most noticable within first 15min of driving. Its is so annoying, so at moment i have adopted either changing gear early or throttling granny style thru it or hard throttle. This somtimes isnt what i want as it takes away from anotherwise pleasant driving manner of what is otherwise a great car.

I have checked on seat enthusiast site and they have some probs with it aswell.

But again no real Answer to solving it So What To Do Next????

17705 isnt the pipe, well it is and it isnt, for me the pipe was fault and was replaced, however i still have this code :(

I cannot afford to shell out for loads of bits to replace in the hope of fixing it, but i will give the MAF a clean and see if that helps??

At the mo i dont drive it when i first start from cold, i wait till the revs drop below 1,000rpm, then it seems ok.

But even then when the car is warm, with the CAI fitted i can here when it looses boost whilst i have the throttle still pressed!!!! it can be a real nightmare to drive sometimes, gutless as anything most times, then other times it goes really well ????????? aaaarrrrhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

If it is as common as it appears, it sounds as if there is some sort of design issue with the 1.8T.

I'm reluctant to start spending money when there is no conclusive evidence as to what will solve it.

Same here. Have a Jabba remap and before I had my map adjusted it was really violent. Still have it though.

ive just fitted a n75 j its not as quick now but seams smoother but i dont think ill know till morning or over the next week, now its got me thinking was it the old n75 which was no good should i just replace it with a standard n75:doh:

I suspect that either directly the cause, or it exaggarates a problem that is already present with the 1.8T engine/engine management.

A faulty part (N75, TIP, a DoobryFirkinThingy, it doesn't matter what) would be a likely culprit on any one given car, but for a bunch of cars to be affected, it seems unlikely that all those suffering have the same faulty part. Statistically very unlikely, one would think.

So if the remap is to blame, I'm surprised that Jabba aren't aware of the problem. They must have mapped a few hundred 1.8T's by now, and they're a reputable outfit, so one would like to think they'd 'come clean' about the cause.

I think we need to gather more data, from everyone that has a 1.8T car (with or without the stuttering problem) then see what the connection is between them.

Is it the remap, or is it something that a certain batch of cars left the factory with?

We would need, I think:

1) Car model?

2) Month/Year?

3) Does it suffer the hesitation problem?

4) Remapped or not?

5) If 'Yes', by whom?

6) Other engine mods?

7) Any 'cure' been tried (successful or otherwise)?

8) Any other info?

I don't mind collecting the figures over the next couple of weeks, and seeing if there's a definite pattern. I suppose the answers don't have to be limited to the Octavia, if other cars suffer the same problem.

Anyone got any thoughts on this idea? :)

1) Car model? octavia

2) Month/Year? august 2001

3) Does it suffer the hesitation problem? yes, tries to kill passengers at times

4) Remapped or not? yes

5) If 'Yes', by whom? jabba

6) Other engine mods? atp exhaust manifold, samco tip, fmic, other samco pipes, lightened flywheel

7) Any 'cure' been tried (successful or otherwise)? not trying to cure this but have recently changed turbo/manifold/tip/airbox and cleaned maf/inlet temp sensor all with no effect

8) Any other info? it gets on my tits when it does it!

I have a standard 54 plate vrs and I have noticed a very slight hesitation in the power curve at lot revs although I've found I can adjust my driving style enough that it's not a problem.

Also if you gun it in first to the red line, shift up and go back on the power it hesitates even though the revs are up around 4k ish.

An ex car salesman friend who knows this engine from the Seat leons etc told me there's a bit of a hole in the torque curve and that remapping usually sorted it - don't know how accurate this is but I won't be trying the remapping option as I'm still under warranty and can't really afford it/justify it anyway for what is already a blisteringly quick car  .

I have noticed that shifting up at about 6k seems to stop it happening in first though and as others have mentioned it's not a problem in higher gears.

I'm off out for a pint (or three ...) but these guys might know the answer ...

I tried registering so I could ask, but both UserNames I tried were already taken, and as you have to fill out the registration form completely from scratch each time - I gave up

ive just put it on:confused:

(1) Model - Octavia

(2) Year - 52 plate

(3) Yes. In 2nd gear between 2 - 3000 rpm under acceleration and sometimes as i lift off to change to 3rd

(4)Remapped - yes

(5) Jabba

(6) No other mods

(7) Changed the MAF, Checked the turbo hoses, Changed the plugs

Could this be somehow linked to the Drive by wire or does it happen on throttle cable cars as well?

(1) Model - octavia vrs

(2) Year - 03 plate

(3) Does it suffer the hesitation problem?yes power die's when pulling away in first gear

(4)Remapped - custom map to run on optimax

(5) Jabba and before that custom code(i don't think it is the map)

(6)engine mods- boost controller

(7) Changed the MAF and coils(previous owner), Checked the turbo hoses, temp sensor, new turbo and just fitted a n75j

:pants:

(1) Model - Octavia

(2) Year - 53 plate

(3) Hesitation - Yes....has done it from new, but only when started from cold, and on cold days in 1st or 2nd gear when gently accelerating with low revs.

(4) Remap - No (std)

(5) No other mods (always run on optimax)

(6) Dealer checked under warranty.....no fault found.....:thumbdwn:

1) Car model? Octavia vRS

2) Month/Year? 52 reg

3) Does it suffer the hesitation problem? Yes. In first and second gears @~2000rpm.

4) Remapped or not? Yes. APR

5) If 'Yes', by whom?

6) Other engine mods?

7) Any 'cure' been tried (successful or otherwise)? Cleaned MAF a couple of times.

8) Any other info?

i think my problem is a different issue to others on here, mine is quite a violent loss of power rather than a slight change that you can drive around. mine cuts virtually all power when it does it.

1) Car model - Octavia FWD Elegance

2) Month/Year - Septemper 2001

3) Does it suffer the hesitation problem - Yes, 2nd gear, part throttle between 1800 and 2500 rpm

4) Remapped or not - Custom remap

5) If 'Yes', by whom - Jabba

6) Other engine mods - Bailey DV

7) Any 'cure' been tried (successful or otherwise) - Use more throttle

8) Any other info - Worse when engine is cold, even worse if engine is cold and the air temp is less than 8C. The £39 pipe solved the 17705 but not this issue.

Car model? Octavia vRS

Month/Year? 02 reg

Does it suffer the hesitation problem? Yes. Around 1,500rpm to 2,000rpm in 1st and 2nd, poss 3rd.

4) Remapped or not? No

5) If 'Yes', by whom?

6) Other engine mods? Only a CAI, but was the same before i fitted it.

7) Any 'cure' been tried (successful or otherwise)? Pipe has been changed (forgot the model number but its the one that connects to the turbo and costs £39, error 17705) Didnt fix it, although it was leaking and covered in oil.

8) Any other info? Seems to run a tad slower and rougher with the CAI, so may take it off?

1) Car model?

Octavia vRS

2) Month/Year?

Jan '02

3) Does it suffer the hesitation problem?

Yes; to a very minor extent; when cold between 1500-2500rpm in 1st & 2nd gear.

4) Remapped or not?

No

5) If 'Yes', by whom?

n/a

6) Other engine mods?

No

7) Any 'cure' been tried (successful or otherwise)?

No. Not bad enough to worry about. Goes away when car warms up

8) Any other info?

Running on 97 octane petrol. The hesitation does not bother me too much. It is only minor, I can drive through it & it goes away at speed/when warmed up. In my case I would just class it as a 'foible' of a relatively (for a prod car) tuned motor.

HTH Darren

1) modle

octavia vrs

2)year/month

jan 02

3)is there a hesitation

yes minor feels like the throtles been lifted when its still on and makes a recirculating air noise at this point as if you have changed gear or lifted off

4)is the car mapped

no std

5)if yes by who

n/a

6)any other mods

forge tubo intake pipe/forge 007p diverter valve /e gay cold air induction kit/ new maf sensor/ new coolant temp sensor

7)any cure

my car had the engine warning light come on and the traction control light came on with it so i got the fault codes read and it was the losse of boost between dv and turbo but i had reversed the dv and it was loosing boost this way my fault but it also needed coolant temp sensor a week later on a long run it started hesitating at all speeds at part throtle engine management light came on this time it was maf a week later when i switched the car off i could here boost/air escaping for 3/4 secs after turnning car off it was a small vacume pipe behind dip stick split, the car now dosent seem to be getting full boost so i am going to fit a boost gauge to see what im running this could have something to do with this intercooler pipe as i have had a look underneath and the pipe in question seems to be coverd in oil and i could be loosing boost from here .
