Blue Bulbs

Featured Replies

I didn't get xenons with my octy as I bought it ex demo so was thinking on getting some blue bulbs

- I had been looking at 'Philips Blue Vision' from www.powerbulbs.co.uk but wanted to know if firstly anyone had tried them (and the free side lights) and if so what they are like and how easy they are too fit, and secondly the opinion of the look of these bulbs in comparison to the stock bulbs (not a comparison to xenons please as I know they are not the same)

if anyone has any pictures of a stock car and a car with the blue bulbs it would be appreciated

Blue Vision Ultra are a good compromise between looks and performance.

Osram silverstar are better for performance but not a HID lookalike

I agree. The Bluevision give the HID look but it's at the cost of performance. The Osram Silverstars are fantastic but no blue tinge to them. Big increase in light output and well controlled beam too.

it's the look I'm going for but I'm undecided that about if a blue tinge is better than a brighter white. Also the side lights are a major concern as they are really yellow and I hate them , stock diped beam are not too bad

I got a free setof blue sidelight bulbs with the silverstars. When they are on they are almost white so they compliment the headlight colour temperature pretty well. If you go for headlights with a blue tinge then u will find it hard to get the sidelights to match. Yopu could try going for led sidelamps which tend to have a blue tinge to them but these have poorer light distribution and require shunt resistors to ensure the computer doesn't register the low current draw as a lamp failure.

You get free sidelights with every order as far as I know (I now have a few pairs of them!). I'm really pleased with the Osram's and have been using them on my last 3 cars .... I don't care what they look like as I can't see them when I'm in the car - what I care about is being able to see where I'm going!

I also highly recommend the Philips Rallye bulbs which I use for my main beams, although it may depends if the Octy 2 uses a single bulb or separate main/dipped beam as to whether they're an option :D

Just to add, the free sidelights are nice and white like the Osrams :D

Having used various different types of blue-tint bulbs over the last few years (and on different cars) I now prefer to use bulbs that perform better.

Powerbulbs have an offer on at the moment (their own brand PowerPlus and PowerBlue). I have the PowerPlus on my Mk1 Octy vRS, with the Phillips BlueVision sidelights, and like 'em.

Well from this it sounds like either the powerbulbs on make power plus or the osram (silverstars is it?)

I would rather have the side lights being a similar colour to the main so if that means no blue then so be it,

I just love the look of the octy but when its a little dreary and you need sidelights on I think the stock ones instantly make the car look like a grandads car (old)... or at least thats what other octys look like when they drive past.

But it is a Grandad's car :P:rofl:

nah, its a hip super groovy young persons car unlike the mondeo of cours :)

you know what I mean though I feel like I'm driving a maroon granada covered in rust when I have my sidelights on

The 80w ones are bright....Very bright....Very very bright......And the Main Beams......Well there just Bright..........:D

The top 5's from the Autoexpress tests for are here

H1 standard +50 go for Philips Vision Plus

H1 Blue go for Philips Vision Plus

H7 standard +50 go for Osram Silver Stars

H7 Blue go for Philips Vision Plus

If I remember correctly the Octy takes H4s doesn't it?

For what it's worth I have Osram Silver Stars in my vRS and I am delighted with them.

Silverstars in my Octy, and in previous cars too.

The osram all weathers are great too, but definate yellow hint to them.

Big thumbs up in the MK I

AutoExpress did once test of +60% bulbs, but I've never been able to find the issue, and can't remember the manufacturer. Anyone know ?

I've always found the Silverstars to be good too. Only problem i had was that he fillaments are very brittle, i managed to break both when transferring them between cars (carefully too).
