Why don't cars come modified?

Featured Replies

I was wondering this the other day. Using the Fabia vRS as an example (because that is the only one I know about)

Why don't they come with the Seat front Strut and the PD160 air sucky thing? I mean, it is all the VAG parts bin at the end of the day - or do they know they will get extra revenue from the Skoda drivers buying new ones?

If the Jabba ARB is the dog's bollacks, then why doesn't it come with a Skoda up with something similar and fit it as standard?

It just doesn't make any sense!

It just doesn't make any sence!

With spell check it would, or is that wood..:P :P

Because adding all the 'extras' would bump the price of the car up.

Although they are part of the VAG group, SEAT & Skoda are still separate companies & each have their own marketing depts. SEAT seem have more of a sporty image, so they have a "sport" accessory list.

The PD160 air intake is exclusively designed & fitted to the Ibiza Cupra TDI by SEAT Sport. This was after the Fabia vRS was launched.

And as far as I know, the VAG group have never fitted rear ARB's to any of their FWD cars.

and make it into a different car with a more sporty sales pitch which from what i have seen on the roads would scare off most fabia vRS drivers.

Its all a big conspiracy by the tuners to get you to spend money on their aftermarket parts ;) :P

I agree that certain things should be on the car from the start e.g. Blueflame exhausts as standard on all Octy vRS' (along with Koni FSDs, bigger ARBs etc) :D :D

Normally when I start a new thread, I right in it Word first to make sure the spelling is okay.

I think it is a great gift to not be limited to only one way of spelling a word.:P

Oh and back on thread.........

With strut braces and larger intakes, the insurance group would be higher too:thumbup:

That was intentional so as you could hear the desperation in my voice.

And if they came like that - it would be standard...not modified ;)

PS. E-E you should get Firefox beta 2, it has a built-in spill-chacker!

Very nicely said Mo. Class!

anyway, back on topic!

it's more of a economy/emissions issue, for most poeple the prospect of a higher mpg is more attractive and the trade off between a few extra gg's and a few extra mgp is very important. you have to remember that vw/seat/skoda spent millions on developing the 'map' that get's put into a car on expensive dynonometer equipment, and yes although it is technically posible to up the output of most engines, they try to run them in a 'safe zone' so as to make them more reliable and to take into account that people dont bother to get their cars serviced!! and as for bolt on goodies, like bigger intakes etc. the one that is fitted to the car originally would have had it's internal dimensions carefully designed to give the best possible throttle response without restricting flow. the important thing to remember when fitting bigger intakes(or whatever!) is that wherever you gain somting you allways lose something!! for example a bigger intake pipe might make it possible to achieve a higher horsepower figure at higher revs but at lower revs because the air speed flowing through the intake is lower you lose low speed torque and power....

And as far as I know' date=' the VAG group have never fitted rear ARB's to any of their FWD cars.[/quote']

most of the cars that have had the factory hot-up treatment (vrs, cupra, gti) will have a sway bar welding internally into the rear axle beam.

Really??

Remap = more strain of the engine = more chance of warranty claims = more cost to VAG.

Remap = more wheelspin = unhappy journalists = reputation for poor chassis and inability to put the power down

If they sold the Octavia MKI elegance in a modified state what would be the point of the VRS? The elegance would be the same power, coul dhave the same brakes and suspension yet it would also have more toys.

If they sold the fabia with a remap and rear arb then these wouldn't modifications! It'd just be a standard car.... then people would modify it....

the question people have to ask themselves really is this... "does fitting a rear arb make the slightest bit of difference at all? " or "my car is remapped now, does it feel any faster?" the answer in most cases is no because for most of the time the car isn't driven hard enough for these things to take effect.

a remap will easily be noticable - you can access the extra power in a nice, safe straight line. but the rear arb? dunno really...? the people that will feel an improvement would probably have felt something (not necessarily what) was lacking

Who was the first person to fit the 160 air intake??. How did they realise it would fit??...What gave them the Idea in the first place??
