fab vRS vs saxo vts

Featured Replies

They're actually surprisingly solid, as was the AX before it. I was involved in a 90mph+ collision into an all-but stationary Sierra in an AX and both myself and the driver hobbled away, anyone in the back of the Sierra would have been dead. Would have been nice to have had airbags though :ouch:

Solid? SOLID? You've got to be off your head mate!

They are cars for stupid people

I tend to even be wary of VTRs to be honest. D)

Your Fabia must be amzingly slow Jason. coleague is on his second VTR and consistently fails to touch our Octavia in a straight line or anything over 30mph!

;)

VTR's 0-60 is 9.3s on paper isn't it? Not too far off the standard Furby's paper time? Top speed 116. I'd expect any remapped vRS to beat a standard VTR in a straight line?

VERY easily!!!

NCAP tests are easy to do well in if you design specifically for them (as manufacturers are now doing) but bear little resemblance to real accidents.

I can personally testify to the crappy, tinny little boxes' solidity. This viewpoint is backed up by statistical evidence.

Mr Newell - I was merely answering the question "anyone been pitched against one before?", rather than going off topic. ;)

Like I said :P I usually steer clear due to the people who drive them and the way they drive. But if I have an official 0-60 2 seconds quicker than a VTR, then I might try it on a bit more in future. ;)

As I understand it, Fabia VRSs normally make around 135-140ish BHP, maybe a little less in the hot summer months. There's also a documented but maybe not scientifically proven intercooler heatsoak issue at higher speeds with tends to mean less power.

Saxo VTS has between 120 and 130BHP but not a huge amount of torque, maybe just the good side of 100 lbft, similar to the VTR. It's got to be rev'd to produce its best.

If we look at both of the cars, the Fabia has a significantly large front area due to it being a much bigger car. Assuming the same drag co-efficient (and the Saxo's might be better), I'd expect a Saxo to hold its own at higher speeds too.

All in all, I wouldn't expect to lose one unless he was 3-up with his mates, in which case, his power-to-weight ratio is screwed and he's in for a pasting. Having owned an AX GT previously, I think the GTs and VTSs of the world also lose a lot in the handling stakes when there's a rear seat passenger... or 50KG of ICE in the boot.

i know this a bit off topic but if you are after a cheap thrill fast motor why not just go out and buy a mk2 golf gti. even in standard from they'll keep up with most hardware on the road, they handle very well and the are cheap as chips

no, ti's my opinion sorry, your opinion that it was a stupid comment I respect your opinion and also it is my own stereotype of Paxo drivers.

What makes me laugh is the people that do them up and it costing them like £20k for the pleasure of it. Now IMO they should go and buy a proper car with a crumple zone first and then do whatever they have to do to it to make them feel like their life is worth living. Then while feeling like their life is worth living they will know that if they have a full on frontal (with a car of course:rofl: ) then they will be safe, and not turned into a can of dog meat.

all IMO ( should have put that last time ) :P

Threads do that on here sometimes?;) I was merely joining in.

my mrs has vtr ( I know but someone had to marry her lol) and they aint all that, handle very well but have no pull what so ever after all vtr is only 1.6 8valve (like my old 1.6 astra club) and vts is 1.6 16val (i beleive), 1st and second gear half decent but you have to red line the dogs dangleys of em to get it going and has very little torque to acheive it with. Personally i think the vrs would take vtr 0-60 as for vts uuummm ........ not sure but if worst came to worst just side swipe the little **** and watch it crumble lol ( please am only joking would never drive dangerously or encourage others to)

I REITERATE:

SAXOS are not "solid".

I have played the organ for SIX young lads' funerals directly attriutable to SAXOS.

They were two seperate accidents. The first was when a Saxo was hit up the back by a van on the M27, (dirver and passenger died) and the second was when all four occupants of the vehicle died when the car (travelling at a legal speed) left the road as a result of a tyre blowout. This is in 3 years.

WOULD YOU DRIVE ONE - REALLY?

Come on!

NO ARGUMENT

Putting aside the solidity arguments (I think even volvo drivers would do well to survive a smash at a silly speed) they have been a great seller for citroen.I really wanted an old AXGT/GTi,just shows the appeal small sporty citroens have to the youth.

Problem is and the real question is,will the Fabia become the new Saxo? Seems to be attracting an awful lot of young attention, there is a new one on its way and it is cheap insurance. All things that made the Saxo popular:)

instead of pointing out it's mistakes like we could do with every car why not concentrate on the fact it is undoubtably faster in every way.

i can confirm a remapped VRS will make a VTS look silly! if i can get my mate to race me again (on a private road) i will make a little vid to put this to sleep

I can confirm that a supercharged VTS will make a remapped vRS look very silly ;)

Chris

A Supercharged VTS???

The supercharger would cost more than the flimsy french **** thing!!

If its outright speed you want, a VX220 turbo is hard to beat for the money, or most impoerted jap Tubos: MR2s Supras, Evos & Scoobydoooos !!!!!!!

So if you can bring a modded Fabia, can I provide a modded VTS? Purile arguement IMHO, compare like with like.

As for this "race", straightline or has it got corners?

Hard to beat for the money? If it's outright speed you want, I wouldn't be wasting my money buying a heavy old car :P:rofl:

Chris

I think too much is being read into the "on paper" 0-60 times. I think you'll see a very different picture if you look at the in gear acceleration and say 30-70 through the gear times of the 2 cars. Having driven on many occasions my sisters old saxo vtr (she's seen sense since and got rid of it!) and my own fab vrs i can honestly say that the vrs is way quicker but the saxo will have the edge through the twisty bits due to it being made of tinfoil and weighing not much.

And as for saxo's being driven by *****, well my sis recently saw her old saxo being driven by a baseball capped hood and the car now sports a baked bean can exhaust and has been "slammed on the deck" nuff said! :)

What, like a Mondeo??
