VRS comparison to a Audi A3 2.0 Tdi

Featured Replies

I had a go in my mates 2.0Tdi Audi A3 and I was very impressed. I was wondering after driving the A3 what the Vrs is like. I couldnt believe the amount of power available in the A3, once you get out of 1st and the wheels stop trying to remove themselves it really moves.I felt sad having to drive my 1.4mpi afterwards:)

Never driven the 2.0Tdi, but i wouldn't imagine there's much difference, as it weighs a bit more, and only has 10hp more! Roughly the same power :)

Was it the 170 bhp model?

In which case you'd need to try a remapped Vrs & again I doubt you would notice much difference in performance between them.

Unless of course the Audi was remapped as well ! :D

2.0tdi has much shorter gearing then 1.9tdi, at least in skoda. (i believe that the gearing is at almost the same in audi)

2.0tdi / 1.9tdi

1gear goes to ~35kmh / ~55kmh

2gear goes to ~60kmh / ~90kmh

3gear goes to ~100kmh / ~120kmh

That is one on the reasonds why it might feel faster, but with more gear changes it isnt actually much faster...

edit: 2.0tdi has closer to 150hp then 140hp. Torques are measured closer to 350Nm. I have video of standard 2.0tdi octavia dsg doing 0-100kmh in 8,5s (9,6s officially).

But i would say vrs and 2.0tdi are both as fast, it just might feel bit faster because of the gearing, but time is lost while changing the gears more often.

The audi would be nicer to drive imo. If i had the choice i'd go for the A3.

But the A3 costs a huge amount more! For the price of the A3 you could buy the Fabia and have change for a nice bike

But the Fabia cost alot more than a Toyota Aigo....... you could buy one of those and have change for a bike..... ;) :P

I've driven both (Golf 2.0TDI & my vRS) and found that there's hardly anything in it. Possibly with the slight edge being given to the 2.0TDI. The 2.0 is only 10BHP more powerful and the vehicles they are in are slightly heavier, so I wouldn't have expected there to be much difference anyway.

If you we're discussing the 1.9TDI(105BHP) vs 2.0TDI it's no contest (refinement, power & noise of the 2.0 are soooooo much better)!

Ate one last night (on a private road) . No contest :D:D:D:D

Get an Octy VRs ;)

*Ducks*

The 2.0tdi has got a smoother power delivery than the 1.9tdi, and is certainly an easier drive. In it's standard state (assuming the 140bhp version) its pretty similar in overall power to the 1.9. However the 2.0 has much more potential for future high power versions (200bhp plus).

Did you find it a bit twitchy at motorway speeds - we've got hundreds of them at work (exaggeration) and they all feel wobbly at mortorway speeds IMHO.

Fantastic interior but the base model has a tape player and no a\c for £20K

I've recently gone from a Fab vRS to a Golf TDI 140. As a quick comparison of standard cars, the Furby feels much more agile but the Golf feels more sure footed. I'm not a boy racer but would say that the vRS feels a bit more punchy away from the lights, but the 2.0 revs out much better. The Golf has better sound insulation than the Fabia so sounds better, build quality is similar and both enjoy the same terrible paint finish (both black met).

A3 has nicer interior finish than both, though the Golf does have a nicer quality interior than the Fabia, but comparing the Fabia to the Polo which is more direct and valid - you couldn't justify the extra cost of the VW. I had a nearly new Polo as a loan car for a day and it didn't impress me considering the price of the thing.

Friend of mine has the A3 with the DSG gearbox. Nice looking car and a much nicer interior than the Vrs. But..... Is ir worth well over

Just got my Fabia VRS and have done 1000 miles in first 3 days, the wife has an A3 2.0 TDI sport on the 17 inch wheels. I agree with one of the comments that the Fabia feels quicker - more playful than the audi, but the audi is a lot more refined and sophisticated. No steering wheel wobble at the lights, better air con, quieter road noise etc. I actually think that the Fabia rides better than the A3 with the sports suspension and 17 inch wheels - it can be a bit choppy. One puzzling thing is that the Fabia brake pedal doesn't follow your foot when you take your foot off, there is a bit of delay - I have never felt that in any other car.

Its a close call on performance but the smaller size of the Fabia means that you can attack roads with a bit more verve than the larger audi. I did try to get the wife a VRS but she wouldn't have any of it - its a skoda?

The base A3 2.0TDI PD140 is
Well the 55 plate one I've done over 5000 miles in must be all in my imagination.

I'm just walking back from Plymouth really  Thanks for clearing that up.

Audi must be wrong then....

Audi A3 Sportback 2.0TDI Sport Is the precise model.

Essentially it's a base spec and I can confirm with ABSOLUTE surety that it has neither a CD player nor Air conditioning.

I'm sorry to sound offish but you have either misread something or the Audi brochure/site is incorrect because this car is parked not 100 yards from where I sit and I have driven it for many miles.

It was the 140Bhp model i had a go on, my mate is thinking of getting the new 170bhp model and getting it chipped.Id admit that the interior is sweet with half leather/velour seats and the centre console is nice but as said above its very expensive!
