Door open warning light?

Featured Replies

Stopped to get petrol this morning. Filled up. Paid. Got back in the car and the door open warning light stayed on. Checked all the door and they are all shut. Beeps at you if you drive off, provided you are below 20mph. Drive down the motorway and it's fine, although the light is on, come off at a slip road, go below 20 and it starts beeping again.

Key fob won't lock the car and the warning light stays on (lock all the doors with the drivers door open, then use the key to do the drivers door). Interior lights and the one in the bottom of the dorr stay on. The one in the bottom of the door was on all the wya down the motorway, I turned off the interior light.

So, what's up with it? Where are the contact points? Could it be that they are dirty? Or is it FUBAR and in need of some expensive part (failing that, a lump hammer :D )

Help!

Expensive part - convenience ECU.

HTH.

:D

Ta :D

What is "expensive"?

Where is it situated? If I have one from another car, is it a straight swap or does it require recoding?

Or a microswitch prehaps?

How many lights in the doors stay on? Both sides or just one?

Just the drivers door one. All the other lights bar the one in the roof go out so basically it thinks that the driver's door is open.

Where are the contacts? Is it the pin on the door which goes in to the b pillar?

Oh, now it sounds like you're luckier than I was. Mine involved total random lights on/off of door lights and interior lights

The switch is in the door catch. £100 ish I believe - ask bengie.

Lump hammerable or will I need to use a dash more than my usual finesse? :D

Given his usual level of mechanical sympathy I suspect Bengie has already tried the lump hammer method on his car ;) So I suspect you need a new door catch.

He's a "mechanic" after my own heart! :D

I have a vast collection of hammers

First step will be to give it a clean I think........

I believe Bengie's is playing up still - I think its sometimes a bit of a balls ache for him.

hardee har har phil

but yes mine is still knackered but always thinks its closed luckily :)

How's the tackle, Bengie? :D

Is it the catch in the door itself or is it the socket "hidden" in the door pillar?

better thank god :)

still a slight ache but seems to have cleared up quite quickly, maybe it was the excessive drinking on a stag do last night that helped :D

there is nothing in the door pillar i think jon, on the B pillar you have nothing more than a big lump of metla to clip onto then a big techno-magical door catch that does everything except work properly :)

Thought the hole that the pin goes in to on the pillar might be linked to something, but it seems that is just a contact. Could be worth a clean I guess before I try and source a door catch....

i thought that pin was just a locating pin so that in the event of an accident it helped keep the door where its supposed to be. could be wrong though.

Bugger!

Was looking for the old pin that gets pushed in like on proper cars and fridges :D Why do they make things so piggin complicated? :grumpy:

Remove door catch, remove switch, replace switch with either:

a) a new switch

B) a shunt wire so it thinks it's closed.

If this fails purchase a new catch, and hit the old one with a bit f**king hammer :)

Problem with solution B is that you'll then get different problems like Bengie has.

yup, the amain anoying thing is that you unlock the car and open the drivers door then 30 seconds later the bloody thing locks again as it doesn't know its been opened which also sets the alarm which ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried spraying switch cleaner into the area where the microswitch is?

Obviously give the surrounding paintwork some covering and a clean after but that usually helps sticky switch issues.

Failing that I'm still up for the hammer :D

I had a look at the car and I'm pretty certain that the pin you refer to is just to keep the door in place during an accident etc. Certainly nothing in there except for some plastic to stop scratching.

Where is the micro switch? The one which is in danger of becoming a very wide yet remarkably thin? :D

You cant see it without taking the door apart. As the door closes onto the pin, the catch rolls up/around and triggers the switch inside the catch mechanism (and hence, inside the door)
