bonnet lifters on fleabay

Featured Replies

I've had mine fitted for about 8months. I've only opened the bonnet about a dozen times & they won't keep the bonnet open anymore & I can push the rods in by hand. I have replaced both bonnet struts with 1 Fabia strut supplied by Devonutopia & it works so much better:thumbup:

I have a set of these fitted, and as exactley as daver has explained is what I did to fit mine.

Here is some pics

Devonutopia is a member on this forum. He has manufactured a bonnet lifter kit for the Fabia that uses the Fabia tailgate lifters.http://briskoda.net/group-buys-promotions/fabia-hydraulic-bonnet-lifter-kits-sale/52095/:thumbup:

I've just bought a pair of these and wondered if any of you guys that have fitted them tried to compress the rods by hand before you fitted them?

I got them straight out of the packet this evening and tried my hardest to get the rods to push in but they wouldn't budge... I'm a bit worried that they might be seized... or do I just need to get them on the car and the weight of the bonnet will make them compress easier when I pull the bonnet down?

And can any of you remember what make yours are, these ones are called Autostyle... all the instructions are in German

When I bought mine I couldn't push them in by hand and thought the same as you, but as soon as I got them on the car (after filing out theball sockets slightly) they worked fine.

You just have to file out the ball joints on the bonnet end a little bit then? I can already see the top ball joint ain't going to fit to the bonnet without some persuasion :thumbdwn: You'd think in 3 or 4 years of selling these on ebay they'd change the design of the Octy ones so they actually fit!

You can't push them by hand when they are new, but mine after about 20 lifts, wouldn't hold the bonnet up & I could push them in by hand:mad:

Either that or what I did was to drill & tap a hole in between the torx screws at a more horizontal angle. Doing that way has allowed me to fit a Fabia tailgate strut on instead:thumbup:

That's not so good, my bonnet is up at least once a week :(

If they stop working after a while then they will be going straight back for a refund, I'd be well within my rights as they are described as being able to last for over 1000 lifts of the bonnet!

I did contact them about it. They said they would send me a new pair out to me, but that was well before christmas & they still haven't shown up:rolleyes:. My fabia strut is alot better & I feel more confident with it.

Can you post a couple of pics please of the Fabia strut fitted?

Heres some pics Rob.

I only have to use one strut. With both fitted on I can't close the bonnet.

Looks good - :)

Fitted my lifters today, had to do the same as Oggy and drill a couple of more horizontal holes between the torx head bolts on each side as one of the torx head bolts on the drivers side didn't want to come out and snapped my torx bit :thumbdwn:

Oggy did you touch up the holes with primer for rust protection?

I did around the edges of the holes.

I also cut some stainless tubing to make angled washers to take up some of the gap & give some support for the stud bolt for in between the stud bolt & the hinge. It also makes things look neater.
