I thought they were well work the money, but I ordered direct from Germany.

Did the instructions come with the struts? I didn't get any but don't think I'll need them anyway.

Instructions didn't come with the struts, i was sent them as a seperate e-mail. I ignored the bit about drilling and tapping a m6 hole in my wing only 3 cm's from the wing mount bolt hole  .

I had to file a little bit out of the ball joint socket on the bonnet end to get them to move the correct amount otherwise they were a bit strained and could pop off (ooerrr missus).

No probs in use so far

If you need any more pics, let me know.

I can't seem to get mine to fit at the bonnet end.:o They just seem to be at the wrong angle and under a lot of tension, can anyone shed some light on this problem for me.............

You wouldn't be the same Jim who emailed me would you? :P

Yes, tis me sir  But it was Yana in germany that gave me your e mail address...........small world innit

Haha. I almost recomended Briskoda but thought I would do it when I send you some pictures instead :P I'll get them sorted when I have had breakfast :D

Sound Job mate, bacon sarnie for me i think :P

Thanks to Phil for the time he spent taking the photos and explaining what he did to get his to fit. I have got my lifters on

However the quality worries me, but for the money i'll give them a go. Just as a warning to anyone else considering these, if these are for the octavia. why do you need a grinder and a file to MAKE them fit??

But with a little time and patience they will go on.

Glad you got them on. I have the same concerns over quality but mine seem to be lasting ok so far so fingers crossed!

That must make working on the wiper linkage / motor / under the scuttle panel a bit of a pain in the ar$e!

I had my linkage out to lubricate it after fitting the lifters with no problems. If anything it makes it easier because you can set the bonnet at different angles and it will stay put.

I have just fitted a set of these, they definately do not fit the Octy straight off, I fitted the bonnet end and the struts were at an angle that would not allow them to line up with the iner wing, never mind the mounting bolts! I ended up grinding out the back edge of the ball joint cup, testing them, stil not able to fit them so I gripped the piston rod in a vice ( whilst protecting the rod from the vice jaws with some cardboard) and tapping the rod end ball joint socket over by about 15 Degrees, they now fit perfectly.

Not sure how others got them to fit but this was the only way they would fit on my 54 Plate Octy vRS.

iIalso used 40mm x 6mm Repair washers on the piston end fixing to the inner wing mounting as with the ones supplied it was starting to bend the wing flange a little, these spread the load more.

right time to re-instate an old thread methinks,

have just been fitting a set of bonnet lifters on my octy, but my 45 torx bit has snapped on one side (lucky its warranty covered and was the second side)

what ive done for the time being is fitted the lifter on one side on the second screw up on the bonnet, but then on the 1st screw on the other side, (think if you look at the 1st set of pics in the thread youll know what i mean)

i know its a bit of a bodge for the time being, untill i can get to halfords (later tonight) but is there any other implications with having the bonnet on the lower screw, i know it fouls the foam seal slightly when closing the bonnet but thats pretty trivial.

any help would be good guys,

many thanks,

mark

I've got a set of lifters but had problems loosening the torx bolt on the bonnet (there was a danger of rounding the head) so I've left that job for another day!!

I put a set on my mk2 GTi and they fitted a treat. The problem was they started to rust at thw top and bottom of the strut. But 2.5 years later they still work fine.
