Hello to everyone. Vibration problems on Favorit

Featured Replies

Hello, I am hoping that someone else has experienced this problem.

I am a proud owner of a 1993 favorit GLXi estate(1300) but recently I have been experiencing a nasty bout of vibration, well sideways shaking would be a better way to describe it. It happens on acceleration all the way up to 50mph and after that it really doesn't seem safe. The running gear and steering has been checked and found to be fine, also wheels were swapped front to back which made no difference. However I did change the clutch on the vehicle 6 weeks ago and would like some advice about if this could be a part of the cause.

Any help would be mucho appreciated.

does it go away if you dip the clutch at speed?

Hi thanks for replying

Yes it does dissapear when the clutch is engaged.

Hi thanks for replying

I had a similar problem in an Escort RS turbo:O a few years ago, and It was also after a change of clutch. Turned out to be the driveshaft incorrectly loacted at the gearbox side, Im not too familiar with the Favorit setup but it deffo sounds like the drivetrain, hopefully someone with more knowlege than me will pop along soon to help you further

Thank you for your help. I will investigate this first thing.

Simalar thing happened on my Felicia. Turned out the tracking as way out. Are your tyres wearing unevenly?

The tracking was done not so long ago. On further inspection of the driveshaft I found that the balance weight on the o/s driveshaft would turn with no effort at all, I presume this should be fixed tightly around the driveshaft. Could this be the problem??????

yes, it's a vibration damper... make sure you do it up to the right torque setting tho... i cant remember it off the top of my head tho..

I think that they are meant to turn.

Hi

Thanks for your replies. I think you are right about the vibration damper,I think it is supposed to turn too.

Out with the driveshafts in the morning.

Hi Pinkspud

No I have not fixed this yet as my missus has just bought an S reg Felicia and I have been busy keeping my MZ motorcycle on the road (why does everything go wrong when it rains). I am sorry I cannot help you at the moment, still determined to rectify it though so watch this space..I and so will I.

Have you encountered any other problems with your felicia????

Did you have any work done on your car just before the problem arose or has it been a gradual problem.:D

it had the problem when a got it. so i went and got the wheels balanced but it made no difference. guna get the tracking done next, the only thing stopping me is that last time i had a car tracked, they made a right mess of it and the steering wheel ended up at 45'.

had this problem on my felicia,my vibration damper turned,so i replaced it,made no difference, only changing the n/s driveshaft cured it

that sounds like it could be the prob. one of my drive shafts sounds like its on its way out. every time i put my foot on, or take my foot of the the gas it makes a klonk. i will try and change it and tell you if it cures the vibration prob.
