HATO powers?

Featured Replies

Seeing more and more of them on my daily drives. Just curious as to what their powers actually are.

Info here :D

The most relevant bit seems to be:

"Traffic Officers work with the police but their role varies with the severity of the incident. The Highways Agency Traffic Officers are not able to fine you, but it is an offence not to comply with their directions. The police still enforce the law."

That's the bit I wanted and just found :D

Playing at been Cops.............Very annoying when you see one of there Hi-Vis patrols on the Motorways.... Every one slows and are afraid to overtake...:finger: .....SO THERE!!

Yeah, I find them annoying too for the reasons above. They've already toned down a lot of the 'looking like a patrol car' image, but it isnt enough. People see them as cops, and treat them as cops.

A guy on ScoobyNet is a HATO.

Apparently its fine to go blasting past them at 150mph as they will do nothing (not even phone the old bill)

must admit they are slightly annoying. Even more so at night when its hard to make them out from another traffic cop.

Of course, that only matters if you're driving illegally fast or very badly. Otherwise you'd not be concerned by seeing a police car.

I drive within the speed limit and drive carefully... .. I'ts the others....

Or if you've got a bootful of narcotics and firearms... :rubchin:

Till you mistake one at night, or fail to see the marked up range rover in front of it ;)

One of my mates has just finished his training as a HATO and he said much the same.

You know whenever they turn up to an incident it's time to park up and take a kip - they only ever make the situation worse! :thumbdwn:

That said - you coppers who shut the A50 on Friday so a bloke (who had NO IDEA how to operate a wrecker) could **** about, should be ashamed of yourselves :finger:
