A4 Cab or 93 Convert.

Featured Replies

Hmmm dads after a new car so that mum can have the Octavia... thing is he can't decide whether Audi A4 Cab or Saab 93 Convertable.

Heart says Saab but common sense says Audi.

Anybody on here have any knowledge on these two cars? Known gremlins etc?

Best bet would be for him to take a test drive. we have both a Saab 9-3 and 2 A4's in the family but sadly not the soft tops.

if i was choosing i would stick with my A4, the Saab interior is v plasticy and cheap in comparison and handling etc is not even close. in saying that it is a good car but wouldnt buy one myself

I hear Audis can be quite unreliable, but General Motors isn't much better or worse I suppose.

never heard that audis are unreliable before

well so far neither the saab or audis have cause and probs so no matter what one you choose i would imagine he will get a reliable car:)

saabs have tremendous scuttle shake. Audis less so.

I know two people who each own a 9-3. Each has been a nightmare, failed headgaskets, intercoolers etc. One has had to spend

never heard that audis are unreliable before

Seems to be a fair bit of moaning going on in the TT forums, that's all.

Having said that, a fair bit of moaning re: reliability goes on in most forums, people sign up to find fixes to problems more than they do to praise the cars I guess.

It's certainly no better or worse in the Saab forums.

Each car has its foibles, 1.8T coil packs, Saab 93 DI cassettes, Z3 seat rocking, S2000 seat bolsters, Fabia stutter, 330d inlet manifolds cracking etc etc.

I also think sometimes you get a good car and a bad car of the same make and model.

I wasn't slagging off Audis by the way! ;)

Saab every time.

Look better, drive nicer (IMO) almost as well appointed inside and a man can drive one without looking like a hairdresser.

Plus I've never seen a **** driving a Saab*

*That's not to say they don't or that all Audi drivers are :D

im surprised you say almost aswell appointed inside, i find the sab 9-3 quality inside very poor for the cars price as is the stereo:(

ah ok, was more really incase i had to look out for certain issues as my warranty is in its last year :(

Thanks.. we have had both out on test drives inc the new Saab diesel which was interesting having economy as well as open top.

I do prefer the inside of the audi myself but the looks of the saab. But the cars not mine so its down to dad on looks. I'm quite interested to hear about the audi reliability... this was one of the reasons we were looking at audi over saab to be honest... good german build, but oviously this isn't the case?

well if it helps we have had 4 A4's and not had any major problems at all. so far my a4 has been more reliable than my skoda but then my skoda want bad either.

ive not heard of any reliability probs with audi and not suffered any

The A4 comes as a diesel cabrio as well BTW

What's his criteria, Rich? Neither the A4 or 9-3 are particularly exciting, imho ;)

Chris

All his criteria are: open top decent sized car as to enjoy his retirement in as him and mum jet off across europe in it. So will probs go for a diesel and wear a mask! (Tnx texus... we knew about the A4 TDI, but was just mentioning the saab diesel as its new on the market)

The other option is the new jetta. But its the 93 and A4 is what he is really looking at.

Exciting and my dad don't go together.. cummon he drives an octavia 4x4 atm.. not really exciting!! (Unless its bengies!)

A colleague has the 2.0TD A4 cabrio.

Very nice car.

if it was me i would go for the A4 tbh. the Saab looks much better and is a good car but the A4 is a fair bit better IMHO. the 2 car in saloon form i would sat the saab is still a fair bit behind quality wise

but no matter what one he chooses he will have a very nice car :)

Just make sure the A4 comes with the S-Line pack.

brothers g/friends father has a saab (new one) think it has spent more time in the dealers than in his drive. :(

I thought that Audi's "reliability problems" were basically restricted to the TT, and the others were pretty well made?

I'd say the Saab is more stylish externally, but would expect the Audi to be the "better" car.

Or what about a VW Eos?

Volvo C70???...out of the 9-3 and A4 it would have to be the A4 eveytime!...have you been in/driven the Saab?...not v.good IMO:thumbdwn:
