Strange Fluid Leak - Help!!!

Featured Replies

Came home from a night out with some friends last night to find a recovery truck blocking the access into our road so my friend and I got out of the car, leaving the engine running for the two ladies onboard. (Modern car, thought nothing of it as the temp never goes over 90)

After about 15-20 mins we finally helped get the guy clear (poor blokes escort steering lock was jammed so we had to jack the front up and push it over to the side so he could be winched up onto the kerb/grass and out of the road!) and went back to my car to find an unidentified liquid dribbling down the road from under the car.

We pulled onto the drive and the trail had followed us up the road so we popped the bonnet.

Couldn't see anything leaking except under the car there was some sort of metal bracket or manifold (about under the gear stick/hand brake) which was slowly dripping what we discovered was water (not coolant either).

My friend suggested that this was probably the climate control system as it had been sat stationary for so long while all running and having seen plenty of air con units in buildings dripping I can believe it so the question is this - does anyone else think this was the cause and nothing to worry about or should I be on the blower to the dealer first thing tomorrow??? :( .

If you are sure the liquid was only water and not coolant or oil then I am not sure what else it could be but the condensor

The first time I had a car with Air Conditioning the dealer warned me I might see puddles under the car shortly after turning it off as the codnensor would drop water. Also said it was nothing to worry about.

If you are really concerned try leaving the car running for 5 or 10 minutes with the aircon off. If the fluid doesn't reappear you'll have your answer.

I vote for the aircon too, nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the responses guys  .

I'll try running the car without it sometime soon and see what happens - I can always mention it to the dealer sometime anyway as I'm waiting for them to book me in to replace my rear wiper motor due to it having a mind of it's own!

My mazdas seems to suffer from this more than my skoda and when I park up its just running with water from under the car making big puddles that run down the camber of the road and I always have someone shouting and pointing at my car thinking its leaking fuel/water.

aircon - don't worry

Definately climate control stuff, mines does exactly the same:)

Its the evaporator that drops the condensation, the condersor is at the front of the car ;)

So that would fit in with it dripping around the gear stick area then???

I had the same thing with my Octy vRs on holiday a few months back, scared me for a while until I realised that it was just the condensation from the AC. It was like a stream, wouldn't mind if it was a hot day, but it was another dreary day in Wales !
