Des - I thought your car had some POWER ?

Featured Replies

Just watched the video of Dave driving Des' car on the airfield and notice how it doesnt seem to have that much more oomph that the new VRS alongside - despite not having any rear interior.

So whats the story Des? Was the MKII a wolf in sheep's clothing, do you have serious traction issues or was Dave just driving like a girl ?

:D :D

Having raced both Des's and Steves Octavia's in my Octavia, Steves is as fast as mine, mine as fast as his - except when Steve was on his own, and I had a passenger, tools, and subwoofer in the boot (not the passenger - they were in a seat). Des's car was not in mad nutter ******* mode, but believe you me, when it hooks 3rd gear, it pulls away, by the time he gets 4th, he has all but gone. Oh, and both MK2's can hold thier own ;)

But Des's car is an unmodified 1.4 16V surely?

;)

Best money I ever spent on an exhaust that was :D

Will someone please tell me where this video is?

No excuses mate, both Ocky 2's were quick but then Dave was driving.;)

I think if I was in a 1.2 I would have had just as much fun. :D

You had to be there........oh sorry, I forgot, you're under the thumb now aren't you. :ignore: ;)

i've nearly downloaded the vidoe, bloody great big thing

Theres a thread called "Prague 2006 the aftermath" (or similar). There is a .mov file linked to on there ;)

Des's car clearly has LOTS more power than Steves vRS - looking at the difference after changing into 4th makes me think there is a minimum 50bhp difference between them.

It takes lots of power to make a difference like that.

Look at the 40ish bhp difference between a one-clicked Fabia vRS, and remapped Octys at the Heyford races...

I feel this thread is only to wind Des up, but don't be under any illusion - its fecking quick....for a standard car. ;)

Once upon a time, on another runway, I was doing 160 mph. Des was having some issues, and only matched me to that speed, then all of a sudden, his headlights went skywards, and he pulled the half mile gap to zero, at 160 mph, in no time at all. That takes some power. Awesome car Des  Also, when trying to get xxx bhp down in a FWD car, less power makes for a better take off from standstill, hence the MK2 putting up a good show at the start.

Probably a fair bit more than that Tom, I know Des had the boost turned down for the trip, when back on full boost that thing is awesome.

Didn't know you could change the boost on a standard 1.4 octy?

I think its a 1.6 not a 1.4.;)

To be fair it's not my car and although i went through all the gears quite hard i didn't want to smoke the clutch with a standing start - that's why i 'let' Steve have a few yards head start with my low revs (off boost) take off. ...that and it's more of a sport to play catch up :D

(all you need is love - do do dododoooo ;) )

You don't have to explain your gay driving to us Dave.......;)

It's not big and it's not clever, if you see what I mean.

Yes I did turn the power down before the trip, did it stop me from playing, no. Did it stop Dave from having a bit of fun, no. The car was an absolute pleasure to drive (clutch pedal feel aside  ). I just wasn't prepared to run the car at 2.5bar given the itinerary.

We were all over there for a laugh and a good time and I for one really enjoyed myself and the company. For me that's what it was all about, not just being the quickest.

TBH I wasn't over there to smash all, especially my fellow Briskodians. Hopefully I put a smile on the CZ boys faces as well. That's what floats my boat.

Once again......Steve well done Mate and thanks.
