Strut bolt problem

Featured Replies

The front upper strut brace is held on by 2 bolts on the NS and the OS. the rear bolt on the NS won't tighten, almost as if it's threaded, the problem is when I try to take the bolt out it just spins around and won't come out.

Will I have any problems, it 50% tightens but it's not secure enough, the NSF bolt on the strut brace fully tightens, as does the other bolt which doesn't have the strut brace attached.

The OSF is fine, both bolts very tight.

Does this bolt need removing and replacing or any tips on how to remove it and I could have a go at putting it back in.

I would imagine the problem lies with the strut top below, simply removing the bolt and trying to insert another will probably not sort out the problem.

You should have all 3 bolts in both ideally.

Ok thanks, how do I get to the source of the problem. Is it a case of removing the suspension or just the arch liner aswell?

Anyone have any experiences on repair costs for this type of problem.

Thanks, Chris.

To change the strut top you need to remove it from the car and compress the springs.

There is a half finished guide on my website.

Strut tops are probably around £15 - £18 each, bolts around 80p each, labour is the big one.

I ended up drilling my bolt out  Getting some new tops mounts ;) And refitting it all.

oh dear, sounds like i'm not the only one with this problem!

It's because the lower section of the bolt is open to the elements in the wheel arch.

Didnt someone on her get them tacked back on with a quick weld?

Cheers

I (well, more correctly, Stu ;)) replaced mine when it was noisy, and the design is not particularly great to put it mildly :(
