Octavia Strut Brace

Featured Replies

E-E's post has got me wondering if I should fit a strut brace. I'm having coilovers fitted on Saturday and wasn't planning to get strut braces but wondered what other folks thoughts were on fitting a pair of strut braces up front at the same time before getting the alignment done.

Eddie, if you are in no rush, I have one which you can have, free, gratis and for nothing. It's down at my parents at the moment but I can pick it up in about a month....

I found that the strut braces (upper and lower) really stiffened up the front and made turning in a lot sharper. It is also prone to a lot more understeer, so it weighs both ways I suppose.

Thanks for the offer Jon, I'll bear it in mind depending on what I decide. Are you running one at the moment? What are your thoughts on them? I've heard people say they reduce dashboard creaks which would be a bonus.

I had it fitted to my old one. It did stiffen it up a bit but for everyday driving there is little difference. On track it may have been worth it, but unless you fit the lower as well you are only stiffening 2 sides of a square, so there isn't that much benefit if I'm honest. That's why I didn't fit it to my current one and it's sitting in my parent's garage.

What? your car doesnt have one as standard ? ;)

Personally I dont think its worth doing the top one only. Doing both top and bottom will make a difference but as I said in the other thread, a friend wrote of a Corrado at 10mph courtesy of a top strut brace.

I would fit the lower at the same time, hence me saying pair of braces. Without both you end up with a 3 sided square if that makes sense.

Surely, given your ride height, the lower one will be a bit of a speed hump basher?

My car is currently no lower than standard vRS and I won't be going any lower on the coilovers.

I had the lower brace on my Golf with coilovers and had no problems with speed humps.
