Roof lining removal tips?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am wanting to put a DAB/FM aerial into my Fab, any tips on peeling back the roof liner? In my old car it would go back quite right when I did it, so I want to get it right this time.

Thanks

When mine was put in, the trim along the top of the tailgate opening had to come out (about 6 spring clips) to gain access to the underside of the roof.

I have a sunroof, so running the cables forward to the A pillar wasn't an option; the C pillar trim was removed to get the cables installed, complete with seat belt anchorage and the grab handle over the passenger door. That allowed the headlining to be lowered enough to get an adjustable spanner in to undo the aerial nut. It's a job that takes 4 hands!

A very nice looking Fabia. Congrats.

I take them all the way down when doing aerials, saves putting creases in them.

When I fitted my DAB aerial to my Fabia; we removed the plastic trim as previously stated and then only needed to gently lower the headliner a short way to gain access. Was quite easy actually!

Thanks for the advice, I was wanting to avoid creases. I try to drop as much of it as possible.

Just another query for this, what is the best way to remove the pillar trims? Which way do the pull off? I don't want to break them. Is it towards the middle of the car, or forwards and backwards? Also what it best way to get the rear selt belt anchorage off?

Sorry for seeming thick if it is a bit obvious to you all, but I dont want to have to buy more trim because I broke off the clips.

Thanks.

I assume the plastic trim came away with a firm pull downwards. The workshop manual describes "remove plugs with special to MP 8 -602/1" was this problem and is it required to get to the aerial?

Thanks

I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to this too . . . . please :)

In answer to my own post above . . .

I changed my aerial yesterday. I pushed and pulled the trim this way and that way but couldn't release them. In the end I turned to brute force. After removing the first piece (the middle section at the rear) I could see how "in theroy" the trim could be removed - however no matter how hard I tried I could not remove the two pieces of trim with the rear seatbelt fixing in the middle. In the end more brute force was used and I got them free. Thankfully I "only" broke two of the grooves on the back of the trim - where the metal spring-clips slide into. This did mean those fixings now didn't work but thankfully there were sufficient others to hold the trim firmly in place when I put it all back together again (which was just as difficult). Removal of rubber trim around the edge of the roof lining was easy enough. Having done the job I can see why mpopevrs was able to do the job with only the rear-middle section of trim removed - the rooflining is pretty flexible and could be pushed down for access.

Overall not an easy job and I now have sore hands / fingers. I would like to see someone remove the pieces of trim properly :)
