H7 halogen--> H7 xenon, DONT DO IT

Featured Replies

Read the DfT thing, then re-read it. Then had a temper tantrum.

Seems there may be no way of getting "legal" Xenons on my Impreza now.... :( Short of putting any retro-fit through a TUV or similar approval.

Fscking gits!

Though if you specify a low colour temperature on HIDs, who will know......

I have factory fitted Xenons on my Octy, but the main is still halogen. Thinking about the DOT requirements, the light units are tested for use with HID, there is a slef levelling and washing system fitted, and the dipped beam will stay on when the main beam is turned on. If I get an aftermarket set that complies with ECE reg 98, can I legally upgrade my main beams to Xenon?

Any thoughts? Afterall, the main beam is pretty pointless, compared to the dipped beam.

Aren't fabia standard lights reflector Duel Epsilloid units? Meaning the light is put out onto the road fron a series of reflectors at the back of the unit?

Putting HID lights into these is idiotic. The beam pattern is not concentrated enough. Not only will they be illegal but they'll be downright dangerous to other roadusers. if you put upgrade to HID make sure you use new projector light units, such as those at the start of thread.

People on the Corsa website are upgrading their standard lights to HID by the dozen. We've had some pass MOT but only on the later projector light units. We advise NOT to fit to earlier reflector units such as used in the vRS.

OT but I had HIDs on my Corsa B and the light concentration was better than with Halogen and passed an MOT.
