leaking Felicia sunroof

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I know this has been discussed before, but I have a leaking sunroof on my Felicia and am thinking of contacting the dealer about it.

It's a 2000 Felicia estate and I've replaced both the seals (the one under the sunroof assembly and also the one above against the glass itself) and it's just started leaking again between the new seal and the glass :(

I reckon I've fitted it right. (I'm an experienced mechanic.)

Question is- does anyone know if any Felicias were ever recalled or is there a manufacturers fix that was applied to later models?

I know the dealer might give me another new seal but it will probably happen again. I see it as a manufacturing fault. Anyone got any ideas on how to aproach this with Skoda?

I don't really want to silicone the whole thing having already fixed it properly!

Thanks for any help,

Andy.

PS has anyone out there succesfully repaired one of these???

Perhaps the complete unit should be replaced?

Sounds like there may be a fault with the glass or the closure mechanism.

There was no recall that i have heard of but the factory fit sunroof like the windscreens were prone to leaking to the point of it being common ! Best bet we found was to remove the sunroof and reseal the frame with goop (silocon) The down side is the screws will no doupt be rusted in the frame and will need drilling out (they are only self tappers)

thanks skudupnorth,

the frame to bodywork seems OK, I used the Skoda replacement felt strip and a bit of silicone, which seems to be sealed fairly much OK. The leak is between the rubber and the glass which I think is weird.

(and yes, one of the screws was knackered and I fitted a slightly bigger self tapper but most came out fine. It's only 6 yrs old right enough...)

cjcrumly- I never thought of the mechanism being gubbed- it appears to work OK but maybe it's not sitting as tightly as it should? I should maybe compare to another Felicia and see how it sits but it does appear to be fine.

Anyone any idea why it should leak between the seal and the glass? (it is a new seal after all)

New crank handle to close the roof could solve the problem. My late Favorit has the same type of wheel closing mech and it does not close properly but i am too lazy to sort it at the moment ! The handle cost's about £25 + VAT.does it suffer from terrible wind noise ???? mine does !

wind noise- not that I've noticed. I'll ckeck when I'm out next. It feels like it sits OK and seals OK.

Does yours feel loose? What I mean is- is it obviously knackered? cos mine doesn't seem knackered. feels like it shuts fine.

I don't know how, but perhaps there is some way of making adjustments.

I bought a NEW felicia in 98,every time it went in for a service,[3years free servicing then] they attempted to fix the sunroof.Sometimes it would go in between services.they must have changed most of the parts.it always leaked a few weeks later. When the warranty ran out,i siliconed it,but even after a while it would start to leak always between the frame and the body,so i'd clean it up and more silicone.I think the problem is caused by the roof fflexing when you shut the doors. In the winter i used to keep a bowl on the front passenger seat, and empty it before driving off.
