Any advice on how to get rid of this stuff? i have to park under trees every day at work and ive noticed some tar on the side of my car.

What's the best way of getting rid? cos it's a bugger to get off n it's looks 'orrible

I had something similar recently, couldn't shift it by washing/ power washing. The only thing I had to hand that worked was carburettor de-greaser, and some carefull applied elbow grease.

It did leave an imprint on the paint though.

Tree sap washes off with water and tar will come off with white spirits or a proper 'tar remover' (which is just expensive white spirits)

I bought some real cheapo stuff, 99p Bug & Tar Remover from Wilkinsons but didn't hold out much hope for it but it's turned out to be a great buy

I've always found WD40 very good at removing tar spots. Doesn't seem to harm the paint either...

I use butter/margarine on a damp cloth to get rid of tar spots.

Works a treat!!

I use 'Sap Remover' from Halfords, blue bottle, with a 'Sap & Bug Remover Sponge' from Halfords. They work! Alternatively, a car cover? Due to where you park your car, it will only be there the next day!

Use tar remover for the tar :P

And for the tree sap, get yourself some Megs Quick Detailing Spray and Clay. When seatcupra is back up have a look in the Car Care section, big write up as to how to use it.

I use the Megs deatailer spray as above..but Autoglym tar remover is very good in my experience. However I think like this one most of these products strip off the wax from the paintwork so you'll need to polish over after

Cheers for the advice...tree sap generally comes off, unless the sun bakes it on.

Will pay a visit to halfords n see what they have in..... not too sure on other suggestions, couldn't bare to damage my paint work in any way.

Not in the slightest. Just reapply some wax afterwards

If the sap is still soft, then I found Autoglym intensive tar remover to work well, if it's dried on and gone darker then meguiars clay bar removes it. Way to tell is trying to budge it with your fingernail, if it's sticky tar remover, hard then clay bar. Either way best to rewax afterwards. Also I've tried white spirit etc, didn't work as well but all down to personal choice.

Holts tar remover is great for the Tar...you'll see it running off when sprayed on and left for a few minutes. You'll need to give it a good wash to get residue off followed by a good wax.

Clay bar is designed to remove tree sap and other surface contaminents.

Give it a go. You will be amazed how smooth your paint will be afterwards. Do remember to put protection (wax) after claying

Just got myself some Meguiars Quick Clay & Detailer, as I could feel some tree sap on the paintwork (especially on the roof) & it won't budge after a good wash.

Should hopefully have a good detailing session at the weekend (Wash, clay bar & wax).

Gave the car a wash today after work & decided to use the Quick Clay & Detailer for the first time. WOW! It really does shift some stuff off the paint work!

This pic was taken after doing the first half of the roof. I must admit, the roof was the worst part - the rest of the car was fairly mild. The finish of the paint work feels like glass now.

Just finished waxing the car aswell - I need a beer after that!
